Hardball, forgive me if I'm asking you to state something that you've already mentioned but I'm too lazy to read through the entire post... what was the diagnosis with regards to your knee?

Outside Meniscus due to trauma. ( Roundhouse kicks) When it first happened last april 06, I was walking with a cane in a lot of pain. Then it healed up but reoccured because I was working it too hard. Ortho told me If I am not going to have surgery then I need to use "RICE". Also, she prescribed the squats and lunges which are amazingly helpful.

Dumbass...I told you NOT to work it too hard. You're going to be disabled if you keep repeating this mistake.
I had a knee injury almost 25 years ago... Okay 30 years ago... It's still a weak link in my Jutsu... Guard it like your mobility depends on it! It just might.

Uhhh...

The swelling and pain isolated the knee for me.It took a few (several) weeks to regain mobility but never came back 100%. To this day over stretching it will remind me that it's still not as strong as it should be.
And a leglock (kneebar) means TAP FAST! Don't be stupid with it, you know?
Eventually you'll learn to accept your limitations... or not.

As a trainer and massage therapist, I have helped many people get their knees back into shape. I have even had surgery due to a training injury (heel hook - ouch!) and it rebounded much faster than the surgeon expected. I am back to 100% and able to do much more than I could prior to the surgery.
In general, strengthening the knee with simple exercises as prescribed is a good way to begin the process. Eventually, you will need to sophisticate the exercises you use in order to fully recover. Follow up with your physical therapist to see if they have further suggestions. If they give you clearance to pursue whatever you like, find a good trainer to work with you on the rest of the process.
As a rule, duck walks are contraindicated for pretty much everyone. There are mobility drills that can be performed in a squatting position, but duck walks put your knees at great risk. A perfect alternative to duck walks is the Squat Creep, a movement found in RMAX Body-Flow and Prasara Yoga. It is knee-friendly, and provides excellent training benefits if you are already able to squat pain-free.
If you have access to a trainer certified in Circular Strength Training, you may have better results than with most other trainers. Check www.cstcoach.com for CST-certified trainers in your area.
Good luck!

Glad your feeling better hardball.
My mom has pretty bad knees, and has had to go through surgery. She's so glad she did. She still needs to take good care of herself and continues to self-rehabilitate.
What she says helps is to do full range of motion everdyay, or twice a day-if you have the time, walk as much as you can without hurting yourself, and try to make it to the pool to swim 2-4 times a week. Its gonna take along time for your knee to feel better, and eventually it may get worse again, so just doing something, anything that is good for your knee and the rest of your body is going to help you alot in the long run.
1/2 the battle is going to be getting over the fact that you're not going to be as athletic as you used to be. So keep having fun and keep doing the things you like to do, keep the weight off, and Just dont overdo it.
BTW: the recovery time for knee surgery is not like it used to be. 2-3 weeks of rehab now. Isnt that worth it?
