  • Kickin'

    Hey!

Is it a good thing to buy ankle weights to get better kickin'?

And can anybody give me some other advise to learn kickin' high.

And the last is streching. I don't know what's it called in English, but it's when you're legs are flat on the ground and the body still straight,
like this __|__ I hope somebody knows what I try to explain

I have just thought of trainning with ankle weights to improve my kicks also. I believe it will work kind of like century's rip cord, but without the overpriced cord and video. For developing good kicks, I would recomend the ultimate kicking drills by Sam H. Kim. The video is found at www.turtlepress.com and is marked down to 20.00 if bought over the internet.

Kicking high isn't a necessary skill, but it is developed over time - depending on age. Typically, the younger you are, like 6, when you start, the easier it is to maintain flexibility and high kicks; this is due to the fact that the muscle fibers are lengthened as they grow. If you are older, like 20s (Sorry), your muscles remain very tight, and it takes years of hard work to achieve good kicks. If you are just starting and you are over your teen years, this is just a piece of advice - Unless you want to be sore day in and out for a long time, like it hurts to sit down to take a crap sore, don't rush your flexibility. Just stretch your legs and back every morning lightly, just enough to feel a good burn. You should contiually see improvement. If you don't know good stretches for increasing flexibility, a good page to go to is www.enteract.com/~bradapp/docs/rec/stretching. Even if you are an expierienced practitioner and think you know what you're doing this web page is a free book explaining almost about everything there is to know about stretching from the physiology of stretching to the actual stretches that will help you achieve and maintain passive and active flexibility. I had been practicing TKD for 8 years when I picked this up and learned how much I didn't know about stretching.
I would concentrate on perfecting kicking form and technique from the waist down. I would rather fight a younger man who could kick high, than an old man who had developed devestating knee high kicks and who knew how to use them. Kicking high can be a valuable tool if used correctly. If not it leaves the groin open and the kicker off balance and extremly suseptable to counter attack.

It would be foolhardy to put weights on your feet to somehow force your legs to go wider. Why not use the tried and trusted method of stretching properly?

          Kicking Training

          Fighter@jkd.com.hk

Weights are good for developing speed and power in kicks but not fexability

          Drills:

Stand in front of a brick wall. Lift your leg as high as possible and hold it there for as long as possible. Draw a mark on the wall where your foot went. Next time try and beat it.

This ___!___ thing you were takling about is called the splits once you can do that you should easyily be able to kick high.
