  • Knuckle push-ups

I've recently put knuckle push-ups into my morning routine and have noticed that I am not balancing on my seiken but rather the other 3 knuckles, I just started forcing myself onto my seiken, but just wanted to make sure this was the right thing to do.

    Cheers guys.

When I first started doing them I did the same thing, Balance on your seikan, if you strike with your seikan. I strike with seikan, and with the lower three at different times so I do both.

These push-ups are primarily designed to develop proper hand alignment to prevent wrist injuries when striking.

They are also used for basic wrist strengthening. Another variation! Try and do handstand push-ups on your knuckles. Or even handstand push-ups on your fingertips. Hahaha... one handed knuckle push ups anyone?

I got some info from karate instructor and was told to use seiken, so shall do that way for now.

Don't think I'm quite ready for handstands of any sort though.

Karate guys are allways gonna say to use to seikan, thats just the way they do it. It depends on how YOU punch. What knuckles you use. Naturally Seikan is generally the safer way as the two bigger knuckles are much harder to break... So if you dont feel comfortable punching with your bottom three, then dont, coz its a risk.
