  • Open Question: What fitness strategy has more impact?

I am looking to tone up and lose a bit of weight. I know cardio is essential to this. My boyfriend and I are having a fundamental disagreement on which strategy works best. Currently I do classes - I do a step class Monday, followed by yoga, then a strip-aerobic class Tuesday, a video or treadmill run on Wednesdays, another step class on Thursdays, and a video or treadmill on Fridays. I also do weights/strength training during the week. He keeps telling me doing a run outside (even only a couple K, as I am not a big runner) would be better for me than classes. I know I can do both, but seeing as I can only work-out in the evenings, I usually only have energy for one or the other (and it is winter, so it's too cold for me in the mornings to do a run then). What is the best strategy? I don't have a huge amount of weight to lose - only 5-10lbs. Or are both options equal?Just to be clear - I like working out! I want to be strong and have a healthy heart, not just be thin.

Running alone will not make you strong.

While I can't verify the effectiveness of classes for weight loss I would suggest any cross training is better at losing weight *and* building strength than running alone.

What is more important is that you enjoy your exercise..if you hate running then there's not much point running as you'll be less likely to do it and thereby the exercise will have little benefit. If you're enjoying what you're doing now then keep doing it. As long as you're exercising regularly and practise eating healthy you'll soon reach your goals.

And strip-aerobics? What's that about? Photos?????
