I know it is considered harmful to skip breakfast, due to various factors yada yada yada, but what about skipping dinner? Does it adversely affect the body/metabolism if I don’t eat, after, say, 4.00 pm?

The only problem is that you will be physically tired in the evening if you don't eat. You might not even notice it, but you are doing things in just a little bit slower pace than usually. And you´r physicall progress will slow down.
And why not eat?? It is best to give your body nutrition atleast every four hours or so. I try eat at every three hours.

I'm no nutritionist or professional in this field, but I still think it's ill advised to skip any meal. In fact, I eat six meals a day, albeit smaller ones than the average Joe. But as seeker said, your body loses energy when it has none.
I'm assuming you would want to skip the meal for weight loss purposes? Then this would actually hinder the process, as your body will feel deprived, and will in turn hoarde all the calories it can the next time you eat.
If it is for the above mentioned reason, I would suggest eating a light, healthy meal of some fruit and veggies just to satisfy the body if for nothing else.
