  • Superman comes from Bolton...

I just read an interview with a thai boxer named Sandy Holt & I though I'd post his daily exercises.

    Press-ups 1000 - 2000 sets of 100

Sit-ups (many varieties) 2000-3000 occasionally more!

    Squats (own bodyweight) 1000 - 2000

Back arm press-ups (done off low raised boxing ring) 1000 - 2000

    Chin-ups 100-250 sets of 10-40.

    That is damn impressive!

There's also a bit saying about when he fought for the European super-featherweight title (not sure of year) against Tekin Donmez (Holland).
Tekin broke Sandy's right arm in the second round, he then kicked a little further up & broke it again. The fight went the distance 5 rounds & Sandy won!
It wasn't until later that night he realised his arm was broken!

    Now that's conditioning.

Yeah, he's a fit guy. I have one of his videos. Never went to his club as I saw him around town when I worked Bolton. He used to show off and was always throwing kicks etc. Big head.

As for the stats, sure he's fitter than I will ever be. But heres a few things to consider.

The press ups are more like head bobs.....

Sit ups are feet held. OK of course, but nowhere near as hard as feet loose.

"Own bodyweight squats" means he has NO weight on his back. Don't want people to think he has a barbell with his bodyweight on his back.

Chin ups are not full ones.

The guy is as fit as a buthchers dog, but lets get things in perspective.........

If he'd had more humility he would have had another student. Me!

Never met him, he comes over as ok though, he does admit to being an extrovert.

Bri - Youve got some good trainers up your way M.Sken, M.Toddy & M.Woody are all from your end aren't they?
Who you training with at the mo' & how do you rate them compared to the above fellahs?

      Cheers Jez

I train alone, like the fat sad bastard that I am. I'm into Combatives, not sport oriented martial arts.

I have a video of Sken too. He struts around like a Cockerel, showing off in fron of the public. He looks like a right arse, but he is a great martial artists.

The last guy I trained with was earlier in the year. He is called Dennis Martin, and is a Combatives instructor. He is a cool old dude. Training includes striking practice (not punches, but fingers in the eyes and strikes to the throat type stuff) and then anaerobic circuits - real killers.

Before that I trained here www.maxt.co.uk This guy would take Sken or Holt out in my view, and would use his grappling to do it. But that is not my call. I'm sure he has the upmost respect for them. He himself qualified to teach Thai under Master A, who is Master Toddy's brother.

But most of my training is open hand striking, low kicks, anaerobics and weights.

Dennis Martin, I think I've read some bits & pieces about him I think he used to work the 'door' with Terry O'Neil.
The website for max was pretty cool.

There's not much like that where I am it's mainly Kung Fu/Karate/Taekwondo.

Tried Krav Maga induction in london that was good.

Training with http://www.elitefighting.co.uk/ & I like it lots
