  • Going to take up Boxing

Really, I want to take up boxing since there are no Thai Boxing gyms around here. But the thing is I get stereotyped for being a smart-ass dude and I`m small, and guess what I had a 52.8% Average first semester, Did not fail anything hee hee.

I really don`t watch boxing matches on TV, but somehow I never see an Asian boxer, other than in Muay Thai. So what do you guys think? BTW I have never tried an intense class like an MT one, I am afraid I wont be able to stand the training and I will be called a wussy. You guys got anything to say or advice you can give me ?

There are quite a few boxers from Japan and Thailand, but they are generally in lower weight classes. I think a thai guy holds one of the belts in the WBF. I know an Asian guy here who is a really talented boxer (middleweight).

Happy birthday. 18 is a good age. I'm 26. What I remember most about 18? Your physical attributes are sharpest, but they say that you reach your peak about my age. I can't believe this since pro-boxers have fought into there 30's and 40's (Mike Tyson, George Foreman) and won titles. I like training with guys closer to your age. You guys contribute to the energy of the gym.

Good luck with your boxing. You can get a wealth of info online. Check this site out. Its for real. Everyone from this site has had good things to say. Plus the guy is from Austin, Texas a real nice city.

Well, I don't know if you consider samoan Asian, but David Tua is one of the top 10 heavyweights in the world. He is a one-punch knockout artist!

I don't think people notice him as much as the other fighters, except for his raw power. His chin is tested, but I don't think he has the mobilty/speed of Tyson.

Your pretty much right about everything minus the "raw power". lol!. he might, and obviously does, have some good power. But he doesn't have enough to make up for all of his other shity skills. In fact, he really doesn't have that much power, now that I think of it. like I said, he's a ****ing joke!

Boxing is great do it! I personally love MT but if there were no MT gyms around and there was a boxing gym I'd be there.

That guy looks like a "tuff" asian dude to me though :P It seems that every asian will look like smart person, but thats just how I see it. It also pisses me off when someone says that I will use my kung fu on him or on someone else if they mess with me, LoL...

Get a coach. He'll watch you carefully. He'll check your technique, full body power, cardio, stamina, footwork, defense and strategy. You are allways workin' on something. Its like a diagnostics check except its you (not the car)

After 2-3 months of basics comes sparring. The hardest part is getting used to contact. I've only been training for a little over a year and there is allways a guy who wants to test my contact level But it has been fairly gradual. At first, you will be frustrated and hit easily. Then you will get comfortable with a certain level of contact. Then you spar more and when you take a harder shot to the nose, you smell your own blood and your eyes glaze (a natural response). Then the nose is ok until you catch an uppercut to the mouth/jaw and your lip busts. Then your lips are ok until you catch a few hooks to the jaw and you get that pain while trying to yawn or chew meat (lol).

Then after all that heals, you protect your face a little better and try not to get hit You try to slip the other guys punches to land your own and it gets more interesting. I've gone all out less than a handfull of times. I have so much more to learn.
