Hey I'm just wondering if anyone has any information on Temple Kung Fu, i'm looking into taking it... id like to know if it is a style in itself.. or if temple kung fu teaches a style... my cousin who trains at one of these Temple Kung Fu places said hes being taught White Tiger style... Ive never heard of that before so i dont have any info on that... the website is www.templekungfu.com although i couldnt learn much from that... any info on this before I phone to talk to them would be nice .

looks like B.S. When you speak to him, ask who his teacher was, and exactly what the name of his style is. Research on his teacher to see if this is a McDojo. -
not judging how good you are at MA or w/e... but what gives u the right to judge whats B.S. and a McDojo... I dont know ... the stuff he had showed me wasnt flashy at all and really seemed to work... and how do i know it would work because i was sparring with him at the time... I ended up winning but ive done a ton of freestyle sparring/wrestling before... he seemed to have a pretty good knowledge base... i dont think you should just accuse anything of being a McDojo seeing as how you prolly never even heard that term until you came to this site ( I know I hadnt) I think everyone on this forum thinks anything is a McDojo unless the guy teaching it has one 18 UFC's or something (obvious exaggeration)... soo just outright saying its BS and a McDojo without reasons isnt helpful.Comment

which is precisely why I suggested to call him up and research his lineage. Maybe it's an authentic traditional style, or some style he just made up after studying for a short time. Sparring with the instructor won't help if the guy going in has no experience, so he will have to resort to other tactics to determine whether this guy is the real deal or complete B.S. And yes, it is my bias because I've been around MA for a long time and I know the major players and their students. Better to be safe than sorry.Comment

I hadnt made up my mind.. I just didnt think saying ... "this is a McDojo" without any reasons is a dumb thing to say... the only thing that would have led me to believe it was the funny "Kungrobics" on their website.. but if thats not what ur taking I guess it doesnt matter. Oh and just so you know it took him like a year and a half to get his orange belt... and I believe it goes white yellow orange... and this doesnt seem very McDojoish to me... second of all they have sparring... but dont let you spar until you get to orange belt and there is no full contact sparring until your higher then that... oh and I dont think hes ever fought his ... teacher. Guess thats the word.Comment

Why couldnt u have just told me lol... woulda been easier than me reading through all this crap... and how do u know it didnt work? reading some stuff off the internet makes u think what uve been doing for 8-9 years is crap... i mean ur right it prolly is crappy... but gimme some reasons from yourself not stuff you posted on the internet... it seems to me you liked it enough for the 8-9 years... soo reading this just changed ur mind completely?... what if someone posted that it was the greatest thing ever on the internet... would that have kept you going ? ......... just a lil more explanation of why you sya it sucks would be nice.Comment

You want the truth, but you don't want to search out for it. If you really wanted to know about TKF, you would read the court transcript, read the tesitimonials about how much money people are spending, how they are constantly annoyed with the high-pressure sales tactics of books, clothing, and new classes, etc.Originally posted by SamuraiGuy

In regards to your ?Cousin? saying that he is learning White Tiger style kung-fu, he isn't. He's learning Kenpo Karate mixed with a bit of Kung-Fu. Chinese Kenpo Karate was pioneered by Ed Parker by the mostpart. It closely resembles 5-Animal Kung-Fu IMO. A lot of info in the TKF system is incomplete. You will be taught 18 Temple motions, but there are supposed to be 96 or even 108. The Kenpo 1, 2, 3's that you are taught are 3 out of 12. Also, back in the 70's TKF was called Simon's Karate Studio...then the name mysteriously changed.
In regards to White Tiger...then you get into another political, money-scandal battle, I feel. http://www.pakmei.net/articles/article.asp?ID=13 But that's for another day!
I went to TKF for 9 years because I believed that things would get better for me. Most people who have been in the system feel a bitterness towards TKF that you must understand. Everyone is looking for the truth in some way or another for themselves. I've been out for over 3 years and I've come to terms with it. Most people who come to terms with it will gladly admit that what they were doing was Kenpo Karate. It's hard to look inside the box when you're the one who IS inside.

Lol the reason why I wanted you to just tell me so i didnt have to look at it... is because I'm not on some search for the perfect MA or something.. I just wanted to know if this Temple Kung Fu was good... I dont need to go on some search to find the truth about something I have no connection too... ill look at these links but just out of pure interest... not to find some ... great kung fu information... oh and by the way if your out of temple kung fu what MA are you in now ? and how do u know thats not a scam thing...Comment

I have heard alot about this guy and he doesn't look to good he was taught by a shaolin monk for a while then came over to north america, opened a school and called himself a master. I suggest you dont go. By the way where do you live.Comment

actually, the martial art that you are speaking of is incorectly stated, it is called shaolin kung fu. As for the temple part of it, the shaolin monks are the general practicioners of this art- they live their lives in training, and contribute to their "school" (temple). This is noted to infer to you as a corection.Comment

As you mayknow there is no such thing as white tiger kung fu.
But some masters have made their own style of "Tiger Kungfu".
Temple kungfu is where you dedicate your time in a temple to Kung fu or any other martial arts
