Lets face it; street combat is usually a cowards fighting hall
Sure...Real men join a dojo and then ask to point spar. The winner is victorious

To reply to Tameos original question. I do believe that stiking is more effective. However, it's easier to strike someone if you can hold them down or restrain them first. Learning how to grapple does not mean that you are going to have to grapple in a fight. It is another skill set that could really come in handy. Say, if someone holds you down, using your grappling skills you may be able to get away, or at least make it difficult for your opponent to accuratly deliver strikes to your face.
If you got into a fight, had no grappling skills, and were taken to the ground, you would find it very difficult to hit your opponent as they will just unload punches into your face.

Iv also noticed that grappling is mostly used by strong people who like to face their opponent directly and overpower him or somehow bring him down.
Not always. When trained in grappling, you learn to use your opponents strength against them. Its a lot more technique than it looks.

Just hit, gouge eyes, bite or try to injure the person who attacked you and then get out.
These are not as easy as they seem. These "simple" moves such as Gouging eyes are actually very difficult to do in real life.

fellas let's be real usualy people would like to pick on people who appear very less threatening for example, I take wing chun and i don't think I look very threatening, but if some grappler, boxer or kickboxer etc or whatever wants to pick a fight with me in a bar, I don't think their gonna have some robotic radiar to see what my skills are therefore if they would like to pick a fight not knowing I do wing chun, I think I would have the upperhand because they wouldn't know what is comming to them and that's just concerning in the streets, one of the characteriztics of wing chun is not fight force with force, kicking someone in the balls can fall in that category, if it was in the ring then it would all be totally different because both fighters would be ready for anything, really it would all come down to who is the better experienced or better skilled in their art, every art has it's advantages and disvangates, as far as i'm concern I know that a grappller would try to get the adversary on to the ground while wing chun would Redirect the persons force and knocks off their balance i also believe if a wing chunner would have the chance to grapple someone I think they would take it.
