Lets face it; street combat is usually a cowards fighting hall

To reply to Tameos original question. I do believe that stiking is more effective. However, it's easier to strike someone if you can hold them down or restrain them first. Learning how to grapple does not mean that you are going to have to grapple in a fight. It is another skill set that could really come in handy. Say, if someone holds you down, using your grappling skills you may be able to get away, or at least make it difficult for your opponent to accuratly deliver strikes to your face.
If you got into a fight, had no grappling skills, and were taken to the ground, you would find it very difficult to hit your opponent as they will just unload punches into your face.
Iv also noticed that grappling is mostly used by strong people who like to face their opponent directly and overpower him or somehow bring him down.
Just hit, gouge eyes, bite or try to injure the person who attacked you and then get out.
