      Your sifu sounds very inexperienced.
Yup, you on the right path

the Chinese version is something like "one technique mastered is worth a thousand sampled".

Ranks don't mean much. If you have enough money, you can buy this. In otherwords, rank doesn't necessarily mean mastery anymore. This is a prime example of that. A martial artists skill speaks for itself.

I gotta be honest here and I may well be wrong, but the story sounds like BS to me.

Thanks jcmack, a prime example of why we need regular sparring against different kinds of fighters.

I have to agree with that Tom, practice makes perfect and not the style. I myself have seen many cases of MT guys knocking the lights out of traditional masters who critisized them. I'll find that page and post those fights here later. Or just if I watch my old UFC DVDs, there are WT practitioners beaten up in no time by mixed MA fighters. Those who believe just because they practice a certain style everyone is inferior to them, usually get the short end of the stick when it comes to real fight.

You have to be a well rounded fighter and fight, fight, fight, if you want to know how to fight. A real fight experience can not be replaced with anything. Training is training, fighting is fighting.

People debate on whether stepping in a ring is a real fight.

Its about the closest thing you can get without breaking the law.

There are such things as handicap matches, but most of these happen away from the public eye. The 100 man kumite, I believe is part of the black belt test in kyokushin karate. I've only seen it on video and all I can say is Dang.
2 or 3 man on 1 is also a humbling drill but a good test of fitness and heart.

The dog brothers also put their stuff to the test

No just your sifu. WC is a close-fighting art. It's in it's own when you are in knee and elbow range - when you are taught right. If your sifu lost there he probably was not a very good practicioner of the art.

I must admit having borrowed tools from WC, hey it's a great way to enter for Tai-otoshi.

your kung fu didn't suck, you sifu sucked. a real teacher would not diss others, unless he's dumb enough.

Or badass enough. Obviously this particular Sifu was dumber than he was badass. But I have heard of some mouthy sifus out there who have backed it up successfully. But yeah, I agree that a good sifu shouldn't bip off and insult people without good reason.

hey this happened to me, but reverse...a guy came in a dissed us. I had him spar my "right hand" instructor. Our "visitor" was knocked our. When we get these, wee have the visitor sign a "hold harmless agreement". Upon reading this, 98% "visitors" leave without sparring.
