I'll cast my vote for Bak Mei, as a tip to my friend who teaches Bak Mei in San Francisco. Of all the kung fu styles I have seen and fought against, Bak Mei gets my top opinion.

I have long held the opinion that there really is no best martial art. It depends what you want to get out of your training. There are superior martial artists. Having said that, I will comment on those systems I am familiar with and that have impressed me. In no particular order are San Soo, Tiger Claw, Five Animal, Choy Li Fut.

I wasn't familiar with Bak Mei until I read an article in Inside Kung Fu Magazine on the style. The instructor was very impressive (the good face) and the shown techniques looked great. I would love to train in it, but I understand it is not well known and hard to find.

I have discarded the "practitioner beats style", opinion.

If 2 people train just as hard, one in TKD, and one in Muay Thai, the Muay Thai guy will win. Why?

Although they are both sports, Muay Thai trains more effectively. In addition, TKD has more rules in their competition, and their point sparring does not correspond to a street fight at all, while Muay Thai is allowed to use all of its weapons, knees, elbows, hands, and shins.

Even if a TKDist trained the same way a Muay Thaist did, he would not be able to defeat the Thai opponent. By relying on kicks, he would quickly be overcome by flurries of punches, elbows, and other devestating weapons.

...and if he crosstrained it wouldn't be TKD anymore.

yea he could beat the muay thai guy

lets say this muaythaiost goes for his little thai kick right when the tkd guy decided to pull a spinning back kick that lands right into the muayist face, and knocks him out

              you can never tell actually

just the luck of the draw

              you can never justify

I know alot of people will disagree with me, I'm not saying it's the best but I feel Wing Chun is a great chinese Martial art.

Make it KungFu to become more general term...... not wingchun alone

The thread says state in your opinion the greatest Chinese Martial Art, so if you say kung-fu that's the same as Chinese Martial art, doesn't make sense.

I agree that Wing Chun is the greatest of them all, but all the varying Chinese arts have value, and most are effective..

I've heard a lot from other people the styles, Choy Li Phut and Hungar, but have never really got an insite on it. Could anyone tell me a bit about those two styles? Are they effective?

I've been studying wing chun now for almost two months. I find it very effective. The first couple of weeks were quite boring, but once i started having interacting (Chi Sau) with others, my reflexes have boosted remarkably. From time to time i would spar(touch contact) with some friends of Muay Thai and boxing.. and i woudl have to say.. wing chun is more than worthy of standing up to them...... im not trying to degrade any martial arts here or anything.. i personally do a little boxing myself.. and have interest in Muay thai. =D

that's pretty true about luck of the draw.

                        'little' thai kick?

that says alot about your experience.

san da is pretty nice considering that they actually spar instead of just "touch' each other.

before I even started with martial arts, sanda/sanshou (chinese kickboxing) always catched my eye and before I used to be very intrested in it but since I started wing chun I lost the intrest for sanshou but now that someone brought it up, I am beginning to be very curious about it now, I don't want to leave wing chun but I'm willing to give it a try if it's around my area does anyone think that sanda and wingchun wil compliment each other, I heard that I should wait until I fish the bill jee form
