what kind of kungfu is this anyway???

I think there have already been numerous posts on this video. I have no idea if its kung fu, if it is, its crap. And the 'kung fu' guy should have had his arse kicked for posing in that way at the beginning of the video. I don't think it should represents any martial arts, due to the lack of skill the guy had.

all that matters at the end of the day is he won...whether he was pretty or not doesnt make a damn bit of difference since he isnt a hollywood action star...it looks like it was choy la fut and he was having to adapt it to his first street fight. To my eye the guy you ought to be making fun of is the one flat on his back. Thats the problem with jet li, people think kung fu is supposed to be pretty...its supposed to get you home in one piece and leave your opponent flat on his back....which is exactly what happened...

BTW randi i like the 2 cartoon characters in your signature

I agree it doesn't make any difference, I hope you don't think I thought he was pretty because he posed. I actually thought that the way he posed didn't resemble a Chinese Martiat Art if the guy has any experience in it, in the sense of his posture, the shape of his palm and that he was stationary, but thats only an opinion.

I would say he was trying to adapt what ever style he was doing to his first street fight. I think this because the way he moves the inefficiency of his blocks and footwork, don't to my eyes seem to resemble any knowledge a CMA. But this is probably not his fault, he seems to me to only have a couple of months training in the style.

You say that Kung Fu is supposed to get you home in one piece, so from a self defence point of view, wouldn't the best self defence be to avoid fights and confrontations. Well the 'kung fu' guy seem to have a lot of chances at the begining of the video to do just that, but he decided to fight instead of just walking away. I think he's just lucky that his opponent was crap at fighting aswell.

But I must say that I was not there and so I should really comment

And I'm not saying I would do any better.

i didnt say he was GOOD at kf just good enough for that situation...and you are right there was no reason to have fought in the first place, he certainly could have walked away, in fact it almost looked like a prearranged fight making it even dumber.

i did notice he looked behind him a couple times to make sure no-one else wanted to play. i've never been in a street fight either, but hopefuly my 2.5 years of training and my constant visualization would help me make it work.

                Makes me wonder...

You wonder but you never know. I was beaten down fast and quick in about 4 punches 2 years ago, he came from behind but i shoulda been able to at least throw a punch in counter. Iv been boxing for over a year and am in the best shape of my life (15 years old). I can defend and counter in the ring but on the street its different. Adreline and the punches are faster and more painful and I wonder if ill be able to hold my own, I wanna fight just to see if it works but i dont want to fail and find out some idiot got a lucky shot off and my boxing can help out in the real world.

he won so thats the main thing in my opinion, yes boarspear, choy la fut was his chosen style there, he needs work on it but that was his style nice observation, but still his opponent was of low calibur you dont need choy la fut to defeat that type of unnarmed child, there are 6 year olds at my temple who could over power that teenager,

boarspear i like the old oriental guy in that other thread the one in the yellow shirt, he held his own no1 can take that away from him, much respect to that guy.

He held his own? wtf, he was fighting a goober. If someone pulled that poor rendition of CHOY LI FUT on the matts or on the street with an experienced fighter, he would be hurting. It looked more like haymaker kwan do.

                      What syles do you study?

Choy Li fut usually looks like LONG FIST....punches that it favors are often called haymakers in the U.S., that should have been your first hint...

Oh yeah so sorry, I've studied five animal kung fu, and shaolin kempo, I have a black belt in both and am testing for my second drgree in kempo late november if all goes well. I also was a Staff Sgt./hand to hand instructor in the USAF. i'm 42, retired and a disabled vet. Funny how all the training in the world wont stop a piece if hot steel from ripping into your guts and and ruining a perfectly good flack jacket. Look forward to reading more of your posts, you have great deal of knowledge and i've actually learned quite a bit about different styles and the perspective of other artists towards their peers.
