    weapon of choice

although i am very interested in becoming deadly with the fighting blade, fairbanks, sykes and the like. i was recently introduced to the weigted ninja chain, forgive my misspeslling, but i thinks its "manriki" my instructor gave me a few pointers and some exercises and i have to admit i feel more comfortable with it everyday. i walk my dog very early so i place the two weighed ends in my pocket so the chain just hangs down like i'm carrying a biker wallet, get it? also i feel more secure; knowing how arbitrary the laws are i'd rather clunk a perp on the chin with my chain and finish them with a well place kick or limb break, as opposed to pulling my blade and end up being charged my self. see what i mean?

yeah i see what you mean, ive never practised with that weapon, i have practised with simular based weapons though, is the manriki a good weapon to train with and use do you reccomend it?, im currently training with types of long swords my katana im concerntrating on at the moment, if anyone does sword training i have a tip you might know od it already but some might not so here, when training to use a sword wich is quite heavy for a single hand or double, like a full sized katana, or wakizashi to a lesser extent, find a solid metal pole wich is alot heavyer than the weapon you are learning to wield, make sure the pole is roughly the same lenth as the sword, then try wielding the heavyer pole for lenths of time ie 1 hour each day then say about 3-4 weeks later you go back to using the actual sword and it feels so light in your hands, and you can wield it with much more stability and skill, then keep trying heavyer poles to train with to increase speed and power witht he weapon, but dont get carried away and hurt yourself goign crazy with your new weapon speed.

Gotta agree with gong fu with this one (even though I completely disagree with him about BJJ ). Keys in the fist are a really bad idea.

If you carry a weapon you should be aware of the legal implications of both carrying and employing it. How about something like a roll of quarters/20p. coins? Anything else that can be used as a fist load and is not easily identifiable as weapon is good. For day to day self-defense on the mean streets of Vancouver, Canada, that would be my first choice. Something like this: http://www.shivworks.com/toppopper.asp

[Fantasy time] For training, I love knives and swords. I have an FMA background - a bolo or a khukhri as a primary weapon, maybe a K-bar as a secondary, or for espada at daga. There's no way I would carry these where I live, and in all probability no way I could avoid jail time if I were to use them for self-defense.

Medic, were you holding it between your fingers like a push knife? Try holding it like a regular knife and hammer-fist with it.

i just got a couple new weapons to train with, one thing is bothering me though could somebody clear this up please?, i just got a blackened steel ninja sword and i dont know the real name of this weapon does anybody know the real name for the blackened steel stright ninja sword?, anyway this is a nice sword not as well made as my hand forged old ass katana, but its a good weapon and its light! lighter than i thought it would be before buying it, anyways this sword i actually prefer to the katana/wakizashi/tanto (knife not sword last there) the ninja sword feels more elegant while wielding it i prefer this to any japanese sword i have trained with so far, i do understand how weak a machine crafted ninja sword is compared to a hand forged tempered and folded katana or dachi if thats how you spell dachi. but i like this sword none the less,

                peace

Most weapons just get in the way. It takes too long to draw and utilize them unless you have it already drawn and pointed at your adversary. Also any weapon that you pull can be used against you. It's good to learn how to use weapons that you may encounter against you (so that you can take them and use them if you get the chance). My favourite weapons are my hands, feet, elbows, knees, head, etc. Taking martial arts has honed my body into an arsenal, growing up with a marine has honed my use of weapons of availability (I beleive someone mentioned dirt)any thing I can grab or direct someone into. Of the weapons of availability gravity is my favorite, It is everywhere (on earth anyway) and can hurt everyone.
