This is one of the things about TMA that you will never, ever see on Pay Per View.

They keep things so secretive. For good reason, I suppose.

Yep pretty much the same concept...I don't ever remember a challenger leaving on his own feet. Duncan and Hoy Lee had that open door policy and a 10 thousand dollar challenge for a decade, people finally stopped coming after it became apparent no one was going to beat either of them.

I study Baji Kung Fu with a Chinese teacher, just over two years now and lovin' it. Looks like another ten years to get the basica, but all worth it.

I've been studying Kung Fu San Soo (or, Choi Li Ho Fut Hung- not to be confused with Choi Li Fut) off and on since 1996. My instructor, Russ Williams, has been teaching for over twenty years and learned under Jimmy Woo. It's kind of an obscure art, with lots and lots of poor teachers and misconceptions out there.

It's almost strictly a self-defense style, though we do learn traditional weapons and forms to help with our balance, timing, strength training, breathing, and just to preserve some of the old school fun. My instructor teaches stand up fighting, ground fighting, multiple opponents, weapon defence/offence, and situational control and awareness. It's been one of the larger influences on my life; I'd be a different person today if I'd never taken it (to think I almost went to the local USSD when I was first considering MA; I thought all arts and schools were basically the same!)

                      Thanks!

Sifu loves to tell us stories about the school in Chinatown and the "rooftop challenges". Good stuff!

Why did you stop studying Jow Ga?

OH YEAH...bout 3 times in a row...I was training at Damn Neck (1981) with Vunak and the word that this Kung fu School had open challenges, sounded fun so after class a Bunch of the Seal's I worked with piled in a car and we went over...

Duncan was pretty straight forward...He looked me over and said..."hit me" I tried...I found myself on floor wondering how the hell that happened...I got up, he said "hit me" I tried and was back on the floor bleeding ...still no idea how I got there...I got up...He said "hit Me"..I tried and hit...the floor...when I got up, he said "hit ME..." I said "Teach me..." he did.

Ah, yeah. That is all it seems to take to become "dead" to someone in TCMA's.

What got you started in Jow Ga to begin with? What was/is the "family" system that you specilaized/specialize in? If you were Duncan's Si Hing how is it that he asked you to take over the school? Wouldn't that be a request better made by Sifu Lee or one of your Si Hings? Sorry for all the questions! If you want to PM me that is cool too!
