It's an EXERCISE to develope attributes from a NON threatening "stance".
To make idiots ask "WTF?"
It is apparent that you have very little fighting experience. To put yourself at such a disadvantage ie keeping your arms crossed (folded) is not a good idea IMO.
The majority of martial arts are EXERCISES to develope some sort of ATTRIBUTE. There are many better non threating postures that can be taken that allow for freeing the arms. So why train an attribute that is so obviously flawed?
Also once the initiative has been taken, ie the fight has started, then at that time having your arms free is surely the most sensible thing to do?

Well, since you seem to feel anyone with this idea has very little fighting experience, I think its appropriate to mention some of the people who advocated the crossed arms "interview stance." Now I have no idea who you are or what your experience may be, but I know full well the experience some of these men have:
William Fairbairn, Carl Cestari, Jim Grover, Tony Blauer all advocate the crossed arm interview position as do countless other recognized experts in the field of Military, LEO and personal defense tactics.

I think you'll find I am actually sticking up for you (in a manner) against Abel's rather strange behaviour in the first thread

So yeah I dont like the look of your vids and it is my nature not to be overly polite.
But I would like to continue to discuss your vids rather than descend into a he said she said argument I will attempt to curb my habitual snarkiness.

Thanks for the link Tony Bluer isnt doing the same thing as KOTF. He quite cleartly has his arms one on top of the other and very definitly does not keep them crossed. You can see his flitch allows his arms to free he isnt keeping them crossed.

Whether the hands are crossed or folded is irrelevant, they may do it differently on any given day.
The entire idea behind SPEARS is the LEO who was working from the classic interview position.
That entails writing on the pad in their hand, now unless you're being obstinate it's easy to see that is essentially the beginning or end of crossing and uncrossing the hands.
From there this concept expands to include drawing weapons from the index points (shoulder rigs and static 67 carry) where the hands indeed crossed to hide the movement (or weapon).
So depending on the situation sometimes the hands are crossed sometimes they're not, its actually a non issue unless you're stiff as a board.
I spent 20 plus years as a Master At Arms in the Navy, from my own experience I prefer my arms to be crossed because it often causes people to make assumptions they shouldn't. It also allows me to draw weapons from 4 index points instead of 2.
BTW, I too could care less how you decide to defend yourself, if you don't like something, thats your right, but to belittle others because you assume your experience gives you special insight to call others inexperienced, shows your own lack of exposure to the world.Last edited by TTEscrima; 08-18-2009, 07:09 AM.

The way Tont Bluer reacted is more or less exactly the same way I have been taught to react. I have no problem with that or indeed with some of the other peopel you listed (I havent gone through the whole list).
All good points but you wouldnt keep them crossed would you. The flinch from any position is a great idea, I get it, but not the stuff with keeping your hands tied up the way KOTF did in the last vid.

I dont mind being told I'm wrong or having a different opinion.
The overly defensive attitude when somebody doesnt agree is unwarranted here I think, and is actually causing more conflict than the differences of opinions are.
Do I really need to bracket everything in a please I am so sorry for mentioning this?
So I dont get the keeping your hands tied up thing or my hearing aint so good, so what this is a forum isnt it? Isnt one of the purposes of a forum to discuss differences of opinion?

Next when someone disagreed with you, you insulted their training levels and experience, that sounds to me like the only opinion you're interested in discussing as valid is your own. After all its a forum open for discussion right? Yet you still felt the need to essentially call the moderator a noob when he gave his opinion. The evidence indicates you didn't come to discuss so much as to dismiss KOTF's vids.Last edited by TTEscrima; 08-18-2009, 12:34 PM.

I did come here to question KOTF's vids with a smartass attitude and I dont mind looking foolish.....I am after all an idiot.
But seriously not looking at your opponent?!?
Even though explained, it seems a sure way to get hurt to me, and yes I get the peripheral vision thing I just didnt see it in action then.
Keeping your hands folded?!? Even after instigation?!?
Not keeping the head out of range?!? (ie comming in with your head leaning in)
Nahh I dont get it.
Oh and this is priceless "Keep watching my threads so you can learn how to fight for real."
There is no way anybody could learn to fight from them in my opinion
So thats all I have to say on the matter good bye
Its been hilarious..........
