  • Drunken Kungfu

I've been wandering about Drunken style Kungfu for a while.

Is it an effectve method of combat? It looks as though its very ellusive and strives to confuse an opponent.

Or, is it just a useless form used for fancy and exiting hollywood fight seens?

Does anyone know anything about it?, or want to comment on this particular style of Kungfu?

    Thanks

      20 years!

I was just thinking about buying a few DVD's and books and learning what I can from that.

Guess that wouldn't be good enough if it is that much of an evolved art. Per se it would have to be studied for a long time ,with a master, to learn the truly effective techniques and the applications behind them. I wouldn't have the time for that and Shotokan.

      Thanks for the insight

20 years or not I think I'll find another style to study.

Pai Lum Tao lookes very interesting and integrative(integrative is good).
I'll have to look study that further.

I was thinking if someone were proficant in Snake style Kungfu and Drunken Kungfu could they create a Drunken-Snake style of Kungfu?

There is a Drunken-Monkey style of Kungfu.
That must look really strange. I mean a drunk monkey!

There's so many different styles of kungfu!
I heard that Eagle Claw kungfu was a powerful style. That includes joint locks, muscle dividing, tendon ripping , and some more pretty useful stuff.

Pai Lum Tao and Eagle Claw are now on my list of styles to study.

As long as we're talking Kung Fu, check out Baji quan. Back in the day (Qing dynasty), it was reputed to be unbeatable. It looks a lot like Xingyi from what I've seen, but I have no idea what the training consists of.

                            I've heard Kenpo and Kempo.

                            Which is it?

Are those two different styles or is someone pronouncing it wrong?

I have a friend who used to take what he calls Kenpo in Arkansas.
His friend is supposedly the youngest Kenpo blackbelt in my state and is (according to him) going to study at a shoalin temple in California.

I am not an expert in Martial Arts, but I guess I can comment from what I read...

Its also called "Drunken Boxing", from what I read (cant get the sources, i read it off a magazine a few years back) its said that Drunken Boxing looks weak and ineffective, but in the right hands its quite a powerful technique. And yes, you drink alcohol, but not too much just enough to get into the state of being tipsy.
