    Video Evidence...

Unfortunatley I'm At College At The Minute, But I'll See If I Can Post A Wmv. File I Have At Home, Where The Drunken Master Technique Takes On Kyoushin Karate....

Basically Drunken Master Gets Beaten Seven Diffrent Shades Of Purple, The Karate Practioner Just Did Kicks To His Head, There Was No Deflections Or Blocks, And Drunken Style Seemed To Have No Power From His Punches, And He Found It Hard To String Combinations Together While Being Kicked.

    Mark-Masters.

I was thinking if someone were proficant in Snake style Kungfu and Drunken Kungfu could they create a Drunken-Snake style of Kungfu?

There is a Drunken-Monkey style of Kungfu.
That must look really strange. I mean a drunk monkey!

There's so many different styles of kungfu!
I heard that Eagle Claw kungfu was a powerful style. That includes joint locks, muscle dividing, tendon ripping , and some more pretty useful stuff.

Pai Lum Tao and Eagle Claw are now on my list of styles to study.
if you want to study the Eagle Claw KungFu Style..... learn the Southern Eagle Style and not the Northern Eagle Claw.......

Southern Eagle Claw is the 3 finger claw.... while Northern Eagle Claw is the 5 finger claw.....

but the Southern Eagle Claw (3 finger claws) is the most superior compare to Northern Eagle Claw......

            My $0.02 about Drunken Boxing

I've always been facinated with this style and even own the video:
Shaolin KungFu(3) Drunken Fist Form. I've contacted quite a few people and asked them about it and have the book by Leung Ting on it.

I really believe it's a "Form" art. What I mean about that is that it's got that Wushu (non-combative)/demonstrative flair to it. Whenever I had found a school that taught it - it was part of their system as a form that you learn after you have been taught the basic kungfu stances, kicks, punches and a whole lot of other forms.

About drinking alcohol...I didn't think that you actually did that. A lot of people are bringing up "movie styles" and at least in drunken boxing, you are supposed to act/mimic a drunkard, not get drunk.

Anywho. Just my 2 cents on the matter.

            Have a good day,
            Couch

Oh just to comment, Snake fist...is useless. I've had people try and use it on me and it's only for show. The most it could do is pressure point shots...and that's strecthing it. That's my opinion, so don't take it as an insult anybody.

Drunken boxing is something that doesn't really need a lot of work, it's just the fact that people don't get the essential facts. You have to let yourself be loose and just focus on nothing but the opponent. When it looks like you are stumbling, your balance is actually coming back allowing you time to build up power and contemplate what to do next. Not to mention it does confuse your opponent. Drunken monkey is very effective. I have seen demonstrations at Mixed Martial Arts events and saw how it actually scared opponents. Quite entertaining but effective. Your enemy loses focus on how to defend themselves.

Also, in ancient China Drunken boxing did come about...from drunks lol. It was a sort of fight club scenario where they would actually get roaring drunk and spar.

What makes 3 fingers better than 5? What are the differences that make the Southern style more effective?

Most Kung Fu arts are form arts and can be mastered by much dedication, But not practical for fighting applications in totality. You can use bits and pieces in application for defense, but anyone who breaks out A drunken form or any animal form in a fight will have to be really good or lucky to win. They are beautiful to watch and dificult to learn, but form art becomes art form not self defense. Just like tai chi, if you know one or two basic forms, I wouldn't rely on them to win a fight, But It is a very effective internal art for self defense by serious knowledgeable practitioners.

Only a suicidal idiot tries to do a form when someone's trying to hurt them but if you think there aren't effective Tiger techniques it's only because you've never seen them

                            Sag,

What I said was in defense of drunken or tiger. Popular opinion on this forum scoff at the notion of cma's . A borrowed stance, set of punches, blocks or kicks from any well learned style works. I realize that forms dont win in fights but that was for the benefit of the non cma trolls who think we believe that they do. Thus I added " not in totality".

I've read that some of the moves that give drunken kung fu its "drunken" look are actually dodges or escapes to avoid getting hit. There are also hip and shoulder strikes.

When you learn forms, you're learning examples of different kinds of movement. It seems the secrete is to learn what is going on in the moves, what are the principles and what is the purpose of moving a certain way. It's not enough just to be able to imitate a move, when you understand the principles and mechanics you can apply them in different ways.

In my old jkd class they would borrow moves from traditional arts. To help us appreciate where some of this came from, the instructor would sometimes show us the "classical presentation" or what the move looks like in the form and then he would show how he wanted us to practice it in application.

For what it's worth, I also heard a story about a karate guy who got attacked and he basically did his karate form on the attacker.
