Chee Kim Thong lineage has a different way of training i saw some video clips. Chee Kim Thong did learn 5 animal systems right? I can saw somefew similarities in training with this system.

Unfortunately I have not had the pleasure of training with practitioners from other lineages (such as the Fillipinos or Indonesians) so I cannot comment on any training differences. From what I have seen, there are visual differences in the forms, but they are still recognisable as the same form.
My observation is that other lineages have probably concentrated on the Tai Tzu aspects of NCK (though I can't be certain), while the Chee Kim Thong lineage has probably focused more on the white crane and/or monkey.

We do a lot of internal work too, but that is not the difference I was talking about. I guess it is the emphasis on the sub-style that shows in the way the forms are done. From the video footage I have seen, the Fillipino practitioners seem to have a Tai Tzu flavour to the way they do their forms, while the Chee Kim Thong school seems to have more of a white crane or monkey flavour. Sorry, I can't explain it any better than that.

Anyway back to the topic. I was surprised that you guys don't find our forms similar , before I've discussed this with another person from Alex Co lineage and all the major difference we came up with were that you don't do the tale of the form and your much more external practitioners of WuZuQuan.

Here is my simple answer to the opening fist.
1. low block against an incoming round hose kick or crescent kick or a thigh attack kick. One palm parry the other hand chop hand trying to smash or break the shin.
2. Double frontal block against a front kick, one hand parry, other hand chop to try & break shin.
3, Double high block in circular motion. Use against two hand attack like a person attempting to stangle you or grab you. This move is usually follow up with a knee or kick as you pull your attacker in or a double chop hand to the colar bone.
3. The flat palm with close fist on top it was actually a hand sign during the manchu dynasty. The anti-manchu forces came up with this hand sign to signify " fall to the machus & power restoration to the ming dynasty". The open palm is supposed to symbolised the sun rays & the close fist the sun. check out this web site: http://www.hokkian-siauwlim.com/bunbu.html
4. The double hand twisting down & pulling in & out again, this part is to condition the forearm & wrist to react against grabbing.
Anyway this is my own personal analyzation of the opening fist.

The oppening fist might was also use to represent one's lineage and show the history of one's system. It has a deep meaning but the oppening fist already applicable in fighting. The salutation in the oppening form, "general kwan ping holding the seal" could also mean that all men are equal. This also has already a simple application in combat. It is hard to learn through a book without showing you the actual thing.

oh! i got an email saying that someone replied to this thread...ok ill tyr to make this quick since i need to do something else hehehe
these names are translated into english ill try to remeber the names in chinese
1 its to block a low kick...tai zu body
2 2 grabbing parries (kim) peho hands
3 lady fixing make up? i think this is part of the 2's move
4 its a shaolin salute
5 sang lieng tsiu tzu the classical wuzuquan fighting stance done symetrically...usually u fight in this stance but do this in offset manner like the right foot stance etc...very much like a karate stance that i once saw
there are many types of opeing salutes..in fact in KONG HAN there are 2...one is used for the main bulk of the sets another is for some sets that i rarely see like tit kieng tzien
there are also many closing setups...these may vary from lineage to lineage...how they look and differ doesnt matter...people practice differently but it all boils fdown to one thing...
