What is a good knife instructional series?

  • #2
professor david james of vee arnis jitsu has a great 3 tape knife series. he was just recently rated as 1 of the 11 best knife instructors by tactical knives magazine. you should definitely give them a try. unfortunately their website, where you can get more information on their tapes, is down for some reason. they said it should be back up pretty soon though.

Forget about learning knive to knive fighting or even worse knive defenses through tapes..... you need a good instructor and serious sparing to get any valuable skills.....

i agree, videos should only be a supplement to your training. especially when you are dealing with knives. the moves can be very technical and dangerous if done wrong.

            Kali Tapes...

Has anyone viewed the Kali tapes by Rick Tucci? I've been considering these to supplement my training and could use some opinions on these or other knife videos too.

the link below has some short previews of Rick Tucci's tapes...

              Greetings,

Master Greg Alland has a good basic series on the Kali knife. I belive they are Tape N and O. His site is at www.kalisilat.com

              Good Luck,

Sayoc.com has dvds available called 3 of 9, there will also be another DVD on the Transition Drills from Sayoc kali. If you are JKD Concepts then these will be easy to access and there's already a frew JKD Concepts instrcutors training in Sayoc Kali.

I typically shy away from the TRS videos with "Kill a bunch of Bad A$$ bikers" claims but there is a very good two tape set by Felix Valencia that is worth the money. The knife series is a Lameco and has some very good information. I think it is titles the Ultimate Knife system.

Another great set is the Ron Balicki series by Pointman

If you want to Specialize on a specific area go with James Keating at Comtech. His reverse Grip or Draw point series is very good.

The Rick Tucci tapes are also very good.

I have the Alland tapes also but the others I mentioned probably offer more info for the money

Cool. I actually ordered them this past weekend. I ordered the first two tapes (3 tapes total, since the first one is a double set) I should be receiving them here soon.

I'll post my thoughts on them once I've viewed them.

H2H, I 've been taking the kali classes here: http://www.sifujames.com/index2.htm

I've sparred in the class, and at home with friends. I just wanted something extra to suppliment my training while deployed. I'll be on ship going to who knows where for about 6 months if all goes well.

I'm not the type trying to achieve a 'black belt' or learn some super deadly secret art you always see advertised in Magazines. Trust me I know it takes time and effort to learn a MA. I've made a few post relating my experiences in Shorin Ryu Karate while stationed in Japan. Blood sweat and tears...
