Lawi Ayam: ([the] spur of the chicken) AKA "tigers claw" AKA Kuku Bima ([the] claw of Bima) AKA Kuku Hanuman ([the] claw of Hanuman) AKA just a karambit. Having one of these little rippers in your hand is quite a treat. There are some modern versions of this blade being made by custom knife guys here in the USA. I recently purchased a pair made in Texas by a gentleman named James Coogler. ( CNC BladeWERKZ ) They should be here next week! I'm a bit excited! I sent him a crude sketch a couple months ago and my waiting is almost done...

This should step up my game a bit, eh? One in each hand?

Is that right? Seems like I use the one I have now all the time... It's a knife.
Two things, the back blade on my new customs have "teeth" to trap, parry, catch or lock. (read rip) The "safety" ring can be used as a steel "knuckle" (illegal in some states) for good ole tsukiwaza and it extends the reach of my fist by 6 inches in the extended position. I can use either hand to manipulate the thing so why not have a set? No one in their right mind would ever use a knife to deanimate a human being. You're right, sounds dumb... Do you ever play with knives Samurai Guy? Disarms? Structural cutting? Do you have a clue how easy it is to take a tool away from another person? Try it with a kerambit, that's all I have to say. You might like it?

Kerambits rule...i carry a couple of curved blades made by Bud Nealy a belladau and a mini max..also have the new glass loaded nylon kerambit (non-metallic) from cold steel.... sweet tool. As for folding kerambits they are not the greatest idea...you cant use the back of the blade(safely anyway) not to mention a kerambit isnt that much bigger than a folder anyway.

i dont know about two at once though...i like a tanto in one hand...and the kerambit in the other. not enough thrusting capability for kerambits. i find curved blades work really well for defense, and straight ones are nice for offense.

My EDC Kbit is a tiny little hand forged job made by Craig Camerer, out of Hettick Il. The Cooglers are a set of toys to look at and play with but not for use outside the home. I'm rough on my tools. Similar blades sell for 250 USD or more. I don't want them to rust! LOL

yeah tell me about it i have a couple of daryl mier damascus clad blades you really gotta take good care of them but they are wicked sharp...
i also like that here in the u.s.a the kerambit is rare...not too many people know what to expect when you pull it out...i sell fighting knives on the side at shows...it never fails that several self proclaimed knife experts say something to the effect of what the hell is that? well whats it for? so i show em ... then they make this face and i make this one

Less and less rare. There's a growing demand for these exotic "utility" blades.

I love it when they try to figure out how to hold it. The handle is too short and they don't usually go for a reverse grip first.

After they feel the right grip they usually get that big grin as it's multifunction comes to mind...

people do find some funny ways to grip it ... i love the pinky through the ring variation yeah this is true like all good things people eventually catch on.

its funny how when you talk about protecting secrets in the martial arts...people make fun of you...hahahah.... i ask you this...if you could have been in the gracies shoes would you have sold out future generations of your family for money and an ego trip?
sure SOME people knew how to ground fight...but most didnt...if you knew it and were jumped it was a great "secret" weapon. now its just another tool in everyones toolbox.
See the first few ufc's it took people by surprise...they didnt know how to deal with it...sounds like a secret to me well it WAS a secret....thanks assholes

I don't know how secret the techniques really are but the strategy was definatly OLD SCHOOL. The thing is Jujutsu as it was presented to me is just "tricks" to win. Tricks to avoid (evade) and counter common attacks, not the least of which was the strategy of Sen Sen No Sen (preemptive attacking).

Heavy on the atemi waza. Grappling was just a small part of the game but now it's the whole game in the new age waza. Go figure!

exzackly...i was taught "combat judo" by my pops when i was a kid...it has served me well for years...it often suprises new students who attempt to try me out on the ground when i spank thier ass...their like hey i thought you said you dont like to ground fight? to which i reply i dont...thats why i ended it so quickly the only person im spending that much time lying down with our legs wrapped around each other with is my wife...the number 5 thrust from the gaurd

the secret was the idea of ground fighting...it was basically ignored and unknown to most of the martial arts world...sure warriors were aware of throwing and finishing an opponent. but the idea of using a smother appraoch to bridge poor striking skills was a epihany to many who would have otherwise never ventured into the martial arts.
