wouldnt 1 regular folding blade be enough? do u really need to carry aroud that many fixed blades at once?

Back up for your backup (Failsafe technology)

Lets think? Ever stuck a knife in a chunk of wood? I mean stuck like it took both hands to pull it out? Who has time for that in the heat of H2H? If one gets stuck it might be faster or safer to deploy another. If you have more than one knife it is still a good idea to practice deployment with a primary weapon but if you are wounded or severly injured on one side you might need to use your weak side to deploy a primary or back up weapon. Lets say you're lying on the primary (because of severe leg trauma) and your back up weapon can only be deployed in plain sight of the attacker... It might be prudent to deploy one he doesn't see...

It doesn't take much to lose a blade or even be disarmed of a primary weapon. In order to deal with every possible situation (assuming it's a worse case scenario) one should plan the failsafe to accomplish the task even if the (primary) plan goes to shit...

Tanto1 covered most of it pretty well but i also have found you cant always get to a certain location...you may be in a hold that doesnt allow access to IWB for instance...or sitting so the folder in the pocket is tough to get but the handle down fixed blade is ready to go...i also USE the folder for everyday task..the other 3 edges are honed for tissue separation and i dont diminish those edges on anything else...different angles of edge produce different abilities...i prefer a 17 degree edge on my self defense blades...although I will work with up to a 20 degree edge, those hold up better should you hit anything other than flesh...

I almost always have two, sometimes more but I don't usually need more than two. One for utility the other for food. The "food" knife is stainless steel and hollow ground drop point to the edge @ (yup) 17 degrees! Hair pops off like a straight razor with that one...

My utility is a knife made by Anza from a HC steel file. And the tiny little D-2 K-bit in my ass pocket is the EDC for SD. (:::Cough::: Craig Camerer custom knives)

Knives I don't carry every day stay handy about the house, the K-bits from James and another custom tanto "fishbone" (ATS-34) made by Otha Mathews. All these guys were solid players that I hooked up with on the other forum I told you about...

I usually carry 3. 1 custom push dagger, a strider AR or whatever floats my boat that morning, and one for the sole purpose of using left handed if fighting for my gun. I also always keep a cheaper knife (<$30) in the car for times when I need one for something that might screw up a good one.

I just want to add....Its CRITICAL to keep the locations for weapons the same, no matter how many you carry. Otherwise under stress youre gonna reach for a weapon that aint where its supposed to be because you moved it for some dumbass reason being a weapon carrying individual requires some sacrifice in fashion. Its really tough on women to find clothes that let them carry and still acess weapons for instance. luckly us men just have to be aware of sizing and cut of clothes for the most part. I learned the hard way many years ago .... I had just purchased a new IWB holster for my browning high power so naturally thats where she was riding Well long story short i needed that weapon...i went for the shoulder harness location it had been in for the last 2 yrs only to remember....OH SHIT Its inside my waistband...luckily for me my buddy was better prepared and dealt with the issue...I moved the weapon because i was tired of wearing a open button up over a T shirt for bumming looks or vest and jackets to dress up....I wanted to drop it inside my waist band and go without all the wardrobe hassles.

during the debrief afterwards i asked what i should have done different since i "had" to move my weapon.....only to have it pointed out and didnt "have" to...i had chosen to. ...and if i wanted to make any more hairbrained fashion statements then carry a weapon in both places until i was used to the new primary carry position.

That's one of the fundamental rules folks, PAY ATTENTION eh?

The last thing you want to do is reach for something that ain't there right before you don't have time to be in that particular LOOP (Oh shit it's not there, where... oh, yeah... it's up here now and it's been a few critical moments in suspense...) meanwhile the whole situation has been handed to the bad guys on a platter.

Remember? Observe Orient Decide Act (or something like that) It's all you can do with tunnel vision to focus your eyes on where you didn't put your primary weapon today...but don't take your eyes off the threat! now you're feeling (fumbling) for the new location with diminished motor function... have a nice day!

The theory of the OODA loop and the reptilian brain function together under stress can cause deadly delays in reaction time, the best and only way I know to prevent that is to practice the deployment a few thousand times over a number of days untill your hand goes there instinctivly. That's for each carry location and the particular weapon position... When you switch to a new carry location or position you need to start from scratch. It's almost more difficult to deprogram the reactionary deployment of the old location than pick up a new one... Or not.
