    Harley,

Duhh I should have just gone to the site. I was confusing you with Kevin Mehringer. I'll introduce myself Tulsa in April 2000. Good training.

      Hello Al.
I don't really request material, even when asked. I just love being around Guro Dan and visiting. I think it's better if he's allowed to judge the crowd and go from there. He always comes around and gives the instructors other stuff anyway. so i just go, train, have fun and visit with guro.
As for what areas i learn towards, i have always leaned toward knife stuff and continue on that line of thinking, this weekend we are hosting Tuhon Chris Sayoc in for a knife seminar. You may remember Guro talking about him at the last few seminars. should be a blast. We are also hosting a seminar with Grand Master Tony Somera of Bahala Na, GM leo Giron's system. So I guess those are the areas i'm personally working on. and still working my ground game, still kinda behind the curve on that area. We have probably met at a seminar but i'm horrible at names, i will probably recognize your face. How is your training going? How's Braeson? tell him and lisa i said hi.

I have been very interested in the Sayoc system of Kali. I have heard a lot of good things about the progressions. I talked to a guy in Florida named Ray Dionaldo who grew up with the Sayocs and he filled in a lot of the gaps for me after I visited their site and looked at their curriculm. Everything that is taught is functional including using a knife already penetrating the opponent to manipulate another opening or to allow time to load an additional knife.

Have you joined their organization and received any of the video taped series? If I had planned better I would have tried to attend the seminar you are sponsoring, but it is good to know there will finally be an association in the center of the US.

One area I have not been comfortable with is knife throwing, but I believe you could apply the concept to throwing any object so you can conceal the drawing of the weapon and closing the distance.

Anyone who has not checked out the site should

Or you can link through the Edges2 site

We are sorry you couldn't make the seminar but we are hosting another seminar with Tuhon Sayoc later in the year, if interested just send me your e-mail address and i'll send you a flyer when it gets close.
Yes I have joined their organization but they have not released any tapes yet. should happen in April. We are fortunate in that Tuhon Sayoc has agreed to an Interview which we will post on our website. In the interview we will discuss the structure of his family system, why he turned down inhereting Pekiti Tersia, his relationship with Leo Gaje, the history of his family and the evolution of Sayoc's "all blade all the time" method.
We are very fortunate to have him, and as with all the arts we study, look forward to representing it well.

I look forward to hearing how the seminar goes. From what I understand about the names such as the invisible knife templates or smoking knife templates they are metaphors for templates for specific size or styles of knives.

            Thanks for the information

              Sayoc Seminar

              Hello Al,
just wanted to say something else about sayoc, the guy you talked to Ray Dionaldo, well, he's a big wig sayoc dude. he's been around a long time and is supposed to be awesome, if he's better than the instructors i've seen, aside from Tuhon, he must be awesome. he is also the guy who makes the training blades. He made me my rig and man, it's outstanding, excellent feel, realistic and fits all the concepts that Tuhon sayoc was trying to accomplish when he designed the knives.
as for the smoking knife templates, they came about during one of the World Wars when Sayoc family members, after battles would drink and smoke while training, they would hold the shot glass and cigarette in one hand and the knife in the other, thus smoking knife templates. the invisible knife templates are the Sayoc version of Panantukan, except instead of being "based on the blade" they still use the blade. imagine filipino boxing, jun fan trapping and silat entries all using the blades in each hand! i will say before you go try that on your own, that you must follow certain principles or you will "defang" yourself! so, don't use live blades.
              Hope this helps.
