What are some training methods used to develop functional stickfighting in:

    1. Long Range
    2. Closing The Gap
    3. Clinching
    4. Takedowns
    5. Stick Ground Work

    6. Any other area that I may have missed.

FYI, Burt Richardson has some nice long range functional drills on the Weaponry tape. It's really basic, but it's really good to learn how to fight with a stick.

Wassup Chad. I was wondering if you would like to teach some type of stickfighting in a health club setting. Call me at 521-4653 (Kevin Lee).

Hey, Kevin, I'll call you. BTW, I met Scott from Burt's JKD class, he came and rolled with us Monday night.

          Woof!

Chad always comes up with the best questions:

Here is some basics that I train my fighters

          1. Long Range: Spiral Footwork, Snakey Stick Drills

          2. Closing the Gap: Attacking Roof and Umbrella, Snaggle
          tooth drills

          3. Clinching: Pummeling, (be aware that most Clinching with sticks tends to be on the high line) Underhook using the Punyo to control the neck

          4. Takedowns: I combine this with my Closing the Gap drills, and also work on stiff arm drills to prevent the takedown

          5. Stick Groundwork: Basic BJJ, combined with the unpredictablity of one-4 sticks in the mix.

          Just a quickie,
