  • Training Devices

Just a thought to throw out there to those of you who have been doing this for much longer than others. What training devces do you use to supplement what you do. I am speaking of things other than heavy bag, weights, and more common things. I've looked at some of the devices that Mike Young had in his book and on the web and wondered if anyone had anything that they thought just really increased their... speed, power, accuracy, aggressiveness, _________.

    thanks for any input beforehand,

A couple of different things I have used or contructed which help with power and reaction time.

    1. Single and double tires for stick amarra drills and power training. There are lots of old tires laying around and they offer a good form of resistance for power training.

    2. Connect two or more tennis balls to a long piece of cord and suspend it from the ceiling. Do thrusting and slashing techniques against the tennis balls. When the targets are struck they move in unpredictable directions due to the number of tennis balls and it helps with focus, speed and reaction time. O got all of the products for under $5 from the hardware store and a used athletic equipment store

I have used it for stick, dagger and empty hands. It is very frustrating at times and the angles change very fast. Additionally you have to worry about getting hit by the tennis balls or tangled inthe rope so it works your defensive skills. IT can be very frustrating but it helps with timing.

The tennis balls are spaced at head chest adn knee height but you can put them in any combintion or have as many as you like. I try finger jabs and kicking techniques which casue a lot of chaos.

I used parachute cord for the string becasue it is very durable and I got a whole spool for about $2 from a surplus store.
