No knife is more deadly than any other knife... only the man holding it.
While its true the man is the weapon, and the knife is just a tool, i prefer nice tools....sure you can stab someone with a sharp stick or an ink pen, but a nice knife is a good thing to have if youve done your homework.

There are many great knives out there but most have poor opening systems and even worse carry options, you have to find what is right for you...and there ARE knives more deadly than others...ever seen an issue EEL? HFS!! a knife that didnt break when you used it on the first guy is deadlier than the one that the lock breaks and cuts your fingers instead of the other guy...hey maybe they are all equaly deadly if you count dangerous to the user in the equation.

Of course you want the best knife you can afford if your life might depend on it. In refrence to the three dollar job on ebay, don't waste your time on it.

I know guys that have filed (ground) off the "wave" or modified it to their own specifications and they are every bit as adamant that it's the best thing for them.

Laser sights on civilian weapons for lowlight target aquisition was a "gimmick" too...

Hey if you get the thing modified, its at least as good as any other well made folder...but why should i buy a weapon and modify it when i can get others that dont need the the work? oh yeah personal preference.

as for the laser being a gimmick, i dont think it ever was, it added a tactical advantage with little disadvantage if it failed you are no worse than before...a opening system that does the work for you is like an automatic transmission in a car, how many automatics are in pro racing? Every idiot needs one to drive his car, and now we are supposed to trust our knife opening to our pants and the knife?..."that aint my job...its too hard"

Hey tant, do YOU carry a wave blade?

VELCRO...WhereTF are you?? Velcro is a dyed in the wool Ernie friend and fan, we've had this discussion many times....i think he is coming around

Nope... My most expensive knife is a karambit (fixed blade) I mean If my life depends on it I don't want it folded to start with... I'm too slow.

I had a lock back and a liner lock folder close on my (little) finger... That will never happen again. Modern folders are strong and do a fine job at most any task you can use a knife for but I refuse to use a folder for anything but cutting fishing line these days.

My little k-bit will have to do...

i checked out the desert cruiser the other day at the knife shop. i kinda didnt like the handle, and it was a little too big for my taste. however it looked pretty robust.

what do you guys think of the crkt m16 series?

Kit Carson has added a "flipper feature" stud to the base of the blade... seems Gimmicky...

                    Kidding....

It's a knife. It folds. Can be had in Tanto style with surgical steel...(AUS-8).

Price is right... (cheap) I would hesitate to trap or hit with blade back because it folds...

That eliminates a few uses that I practice but I would put it in my tackle box.

The bigger CR-M16-04 (plain edge tanto) or CR-M16-14 (serrated) would make a good fistload.

Actually the "flipper IS a "gimmick" it doesnt work all that well, causes you to use an odd grip and could be replaced by inertia opening. The quality of the blade is typical CRKT which is great for what you spend Look at the Kasper folder, the small one is really nice..it has the Lawk locking system which is not a gimmick and nearly makes the knife a fixed blade.

the flipper design didnt seem to bad. i checked one out at the knife shop, it allows the knife to be opened fast, like a switch blade. im sure it can fail, but it didnt seem to bad. the m16 knives also have the lawks system on them. now the lawks system seemed like a gimmik to me, but u say its good boarspear?

with practice the lawks folder can be opened and the secondary lock engaged all in one move IF you use inertia openings and reverse grip...its such a habit to my wife she cant open it without engaging both locks on the opening...the flipper puts your hand in an odd position for quickly using the knife (the whole point to the flipper)

Just a quick question, an inertia opening would be a blade which opens with a flick of the wrist correct (in opposed to an assisted opening mechanism like the wave, or the kershaw speed assist, or a purely manual opening like the thumb guided opening of a spyderco/Smith and weston or any other of the billions of folders out there). If I'm assuming correctly (that inertia opening implies a flick of the wrist) I don't think you could be more correct, that is by far the smoothest and most reliable deployment mechanism out there. I had a cheap 10$ Falcon blade that opened like this, since it broke I've been scouring the net for a blade that would open the same way and have yet to find anything, even in the 120$+ price range.

dont inertia open cheap knives. it breaks them And virtually any knife that is well made and has a blade that is heavier than the handle can be inertia opened with practice and working the blade in...CRKT blades are awesome for inertia openings!! no spyderco is capable of inertia opening though....yuk, i hate 'em. (except the James keating chinook, its a folding bowie and heavy enough to inertia open)
