depends on the model, they produce a ton, some are good and alot are crap.

imo make sure the knive has a pocket clip which is mounted independnetly from the bolt holding the blade, this will insure the action does not become to loose. as far as locking device i like linear locks , but many people fear you may inadvertaly close the blade while in use. ( decide for yourself).

I don't carry a knife, I USE a knife. Thus far, I've busted 3 S&W SWAT's. They are umm, crap. Currently, I'm using a CRKT M-16Z. I've had it for 2 years and it is finally starting to show signs of needing replaced. A Benchmade Griptillian is calling.

I'm a big fan of Cold Steel. They make some bold claims about their knives, but from what I've seen, they live up to them. I own several of their products and carry a Cold Steel folder. Good utility knife that I could use as an SD weapon if I had to. Personally, if I'm going to be carrying around a S&W product, particularly for SD, it won't be one of their knives...

I've had soo many throught the years spyderco's, coldsteel, Columbia river, S&W's.

However, my favorite good all around knife is to date is

Benchmades' 710 McHenry & Williams. You can also opt for the 705 which is a smaller knife. Both knifes have the axis lock. And you just cant beat the overall quality and construction of this and other BM knifes. These do cost the most but I think its a good investment.

If California didn't have a ban on Balisongs that's what I'd carry.

Does anyone know where I can find a Karambit folder that won't bust my bank account. I don't need anything fancy, why pay more than $50 on something you may leave stuck in someone's person or stuck up in a tree somewhere.

I have alot of experience with knives and I love the ka-bar. I'm in the usmc and my knife is used for everything the ka-bar is one of the most reliable knives on the market. Here are the stats of the one I own. 440 stainless steel, heat and cold tempered , sharped 20 degrees by 20 degrees, coated with a acrlyc titanium coating. cuts though damn near anything. Test em out.

Stud....Hate to break it to you....I carried a Kabar and Camillus....Neither version of this venerable blade (and I LOVE it!) is constructed of stainless steel. I've used mine in the field in tropical, temperate, desert, and subarctic climates. It rusts. Not bad, but it deos rust. Still a great tool and weapon. I had myCamillus ofr ten year before I broke it, and that's cause I Was abusing the crap out of it.

I don't think you'll find a good quality Karambit folder for under $50. A matter a fact I've only seen a few makers of the Karambit folder and they are pretty pricey knifes. $200+. Your better off buying a regular folder for $50.

I use a Gelbu Special for my MA uses... but the Kobra and Chitlangi, Sirupti, and the WWII model are also good as well.

in order of light to heavy for the fighting knives goes like this:

Kobra - lightest
Gelbu Special - lighter
Siruptai - light
Chitlangi - medium (but feels very light... its balanced very well)
WWII - medium

there is some overlap in that sometimes a Gelbu Special will be lighter than a Kobra because all these knives are handmade. Many Bando practicioners perfer the WWII model.

all these blades are much more substantial than your run of the mill knife.... for instance: a K-bar (great knife for money BTW) feels like a butter knife next to these.
