There is a lot of fmas in Panay.... try to read the book grandmasters of Arnis and you will find Illongo masters.....

By the way real Okinawan karate is not bad, my GF is Okinawaian and I've seen one cousin who practices it....but it is like Kung Fu they hide a lot.... these peoples train very hard (some 6 hrs every day on week ends and also hours in the watter) and they know how to fight. What you see outside Okinawa is export karate not the real thing....
I once heard in a word of mouth YAW YAN in one of my classmates when we was on highschool, it means saYAW ng kamataYAN, his martial art is SIKARAN, i heard also YAW YAN in the INSIDER TV program on television

Sikaran is like filipino Tae Kwo Do.... Yaw Yan is a kind of filipino Muay Thai with more kicks-strikes, one branch of Yaw Yan also has groundfighting and weapon training.....

The K1 Final was between Musashi and Bonjaski, Karate vs MT even though Musashi lost, I think only a fool will say Musashi was defenceless
If Karate was so useless and ineffective Musashi wouldn't even have made it to the finals, the semi final he beat Aerts, former K1 champ

        Musashi is a Seidokaikan karateka
Hey Toudiyama[NL]- don't judge karate as not so bad based on a few superior athletes. Those same guys would be just as bad ass if they did boxing, MT, TKD, or monkey can-do.

Karate is fine as a sport or for exercise. I think were it really gets its bashing is when it comes to self-defense. It is nearly (not completely) useless. I have been to several traditional Dojo's and have trained in 4 or so styles of karate and none taught good reality based self-defense nor' did they use realistic scenarios, none even used scenarios. Yah they teach punches and kicks but not the mind set and the training is to impractical to be used effectively in the street

So if you want tradition, sport, or to trim a pound or two karate aint so bad.

        • But if you want to learn to fight, it is.

Quite a sad state for a so called martial art.

          • It's not the art that will defend you...it is you. Your attitude, your hands, your feet and whatever other body part you have figured out how to inflict damage with. If everyone were this closed minded, mixed martial arts would have never surfaced and evolved to what it has become today...One kick ass way to become a badass!

It is sad to see some folks so disillusioned by the art they have chosen. I love Shotokan karate and still call it my home. However, through the years, I have learned the suplex and different flavors of the arm bar. I have learned the odd standing choke, shooting and sprawling. If you know how a real fight evolves, you cannot remain within the confines of one methodology.

My point...? Who the heck knows! I can't remember!...

Oh yeah...Keeping an open mind in the arts may very well save your life someday. Every art has something valuable to offer but some folks still insist that that one magical method is IT. I hope they never meet a real street fighter and please...Stay out of the octagon!

MT also pray to Buddha to spiritually lift their fighting spirits. Don`t they do this dance before a fight?

BS, MT doesn't train/teach good reality based self-defense either nor do they use realistic scenarios or even use scenarios at all

Boxing doesn't either nor does wrestling nor most other so called 'Modern" MAs

only the shit like you do ( combatives?) does so

                    • Scenario training is not needed to much for effective self defense. Best scenario training is hard sparring. But kyoukushin karate, seidokan, ashihara, and other full contact types are effective. They spar hard and all those styles are heavily influenced by muay thai and other kickboxing styles.

                      • I love the fact that the guy trying to defend Karate is calling Combatives shit.

                        Haw haw haw!

Actually, I would rate scenario training as important as any other factor in self defence training. The proper management of the crucial time immediately before fisticuffs can ensure victory before the other guy even knows its started.

Sparring is a useful tool. But no real fight starts with the combatants bowing to each other in their pyjamas and bare feet.

                        • Some karate sux donkey balls while others are very well rounded systems imo. Karate is a loose term. There are many styles of karate. It is like saying japense mas nearly. Bri in karates defense noone knows how the fight will start til it starts and no sparring is like fighting. Mma no holds competition is totally different than fighting on the street. Heh, fights don't last 10 min. The average fight is 30 seconds (not pulled out of my ass). For a good maist it should be 1-2 techniques and under 30 seconds.
