The part I didn't understand was how when he first fought the Samurai he was fending like 7 of them off at once and then when he started sparring with them later he kept on getting beaten by just one . Maybe it was the fact that they were using the sword, possibly not his weapon of choice (and the samurai's specialized in the katana) but it still seemed strange to me.

    Sincerly,

From what I understand, and this comes from a reputable authority, ninjitsu of today is not the ninjitsu of yesterday.

I've read posts saying what ninjitsu is and isn't, but according to my sources, it was a way of life that they wouldn't reveal. They were a society more than people practicing an art. There is so much more than talking about what techniques these people practiced. So many details left out about them, such as they didn't have children of their own, so not to be reluctant about sending them on tasks that they would be unlikely to return from.

A movie that better shows the way they lived is "The Hunted" with Christopher Lambert. These people were clanish, and did not deal with people outside of their circle directly. Keeping their identity was so important that if you learned a ninja's identity, you supposedly never got the chance to tell.

I've already sent some of the posters here a copy of a Ninjitsu piece that sheds more light on the subject than most things I've read recently. There are some articles and stories out there that offer very nice insight. Keep looking.

Yeah, I read (and posted i think) that the ninja were not as skilled as the samurai in the sword fighting. However, I then don't think a bunch of ninja would have attacked a bunch of samurai the way they did in the movie, thus.

But like said, it is Hollywood.

Oh well, I read in this one article on ninjutsu, this one woman, who trained with Massaki Hatsumi, said that the techniques of ninjutsu are nice because they do not require physical size or strength. I don't know when her last fight was, but if you don't have at least strength, no martial art will work for you against a powerful attacked.

            And ninja were strong!!

Hey Uke, send me that ninja piece!

Darrianation, I was worried that this might confuse people after I wrote it. I meant it is an easy thing to do if you know how to do it. It seems so trivial to me to even discuss it as such a difficult thing to do. However, it was hard to do at when I was first learning how to do it because it was such a foreign concept. When someone showed me how to do it a light bulb came on and it was easy. I guess it is just one of those things that is so easy that some people can make it hard.

Thai Bri. I am new to this forum but I see a pattern with you. You seem to be a rough and tumble boxer/kickboxer type. You probably spend the majority of your training time hitting heavy bags because you feel it is as close to real life as you can get without hurting people all the time. You are possibly a very offensive fighter. If you had to choose between strength and power, or speed and agility to make a strong fighter you would choose strength and power. Unfortunately that view is very onesided. You are a little overweight also I'd imagine. I know many people who are like you. You can't see that it may be possible to punch an incoming punch because you've never done it or seen it done. Fair enough. I've proven many people wrong in real fights when I've done these kinds of thing when they were giving me all they have. Fighters like you are very onesided, easily read, and easily picked apart. Spouting your opinions out on the internet is okay since the majority of the people you talk to are across the ocean, but I caution you about taking these views with you in your daily life. It may not have happened yet, but it usually only takes once before you'll never be physically able to train again. I've seen it happen. I've done it to a few people. I'm sure you may be a good fighter compared to the people you are fighting, but you are no expert. I can tell by the way you talk.

I'll check back in a day or so.

                    • Check youself over to the UK anytime. I'm not talking any silly challenge to the death.

If you can show me how to punch incoming punches I'd pay you for the lesson. If not I'll take you to the dentist. Now is that fair?

The Bulletman thing was OK, but I would have liked more time on the mat with it all to myself.

                        • Hmm, well, I've heard you can headbutt somone else's headbutt if they try to headbutt you.

You can punch someone's punch though. I haven't read the supposed technique described, but believe me, it can be done, because I had it done to me while sparring with some guy who was more advanced than I. Every time I tried to jab, he'd punch my fist with his, basically, and it hurt like hell. I guess speed is a factor, since I was not a super-fast puncher than, but my point is, you can get your punch punched.

However, the thing is, the guy who was punching my punches wasn't meaning to do so. We'd just try to hit each other at the same time (by coincidence), and our fists kept smackng head-on into each other a good bit. It hurt him too, cuz bone on bone hurts.

But I mean, you can punch a punch. I think though first you'd wanna have your hands very conditioned so that it doesn't hurt you, but hurts like hell for the hitter.

                          • OF COURSE IT COULD HAPPEN BY COINCIDENCE.......

But tha does not mean someone could do it on purpose with any regularity at all.

                            • TB,

What is your definition of "punching an incoming punch?" I don't think that the message has correctly been conveyed. If you could, could you describe for us what you are envisioning and in your description could you "assume" that it works so that your analysis is not muddled with sarcasm?

                              • The way I'm picturing this nonsense is that, as someone punches you, you block it by punching his hand or wrist as it is in flight towards your bonce.
