Shorin-Ryu is more of a physically ecinomical art. Where as TKD is very hard, blocks slamming, Shorin-Ryu is more of a softer, flowing style. When blocking in Shorin-Ryu, much of it is to divert the force of the kick or puch so you can counter. TKD blocks are based on form and force; your oponents blow going one way, your block going the opposite, they intersect and hopefully you stop them. Also in Shorin-Ryu, there are different depths to the techniques. The basics work, and are drilled alot, but behind the basics, you can interjuect many levels of attack and defense. For example, a block of a puch could be basic perpendicular to the attachers limb, followed by a basic counter. Or it could incolve the same attack, but blocking "soft," parrying so that the attacker is off balance and open to attack. You basic counter, say a punch, you could go more in depth to a joint or nerve strike, or fingerstabs ect. It is very multileveled. Its based on basics, but they can be modified infinately. About being physically ecinomical, it is alot easier on your body, and it doesn't emphisise flashy moves. Quickest point from A to B. It is compact and fast. Instead of a big arm movement in TKD designed to hurt the leg of your apponent(and possibly yourself) it is small movements designed to get the most effect for the minimal effort. It is a very complex art, but very well worth learning. You can be okay with some training, enough to help in an emergency, but to go and fight for the hell of it, yould probably be better giving it some time. Also, there are peopele in our dojo with back problems, and they are just as good as anyone. I think that the power required in TKD might be somewhat of a problem if you are injured in your "core."
P.S.-Sorry for the quality of the writing, I'm kinda burned out. Anything that doesnt make sense, I apoligise.

Im not trying offend you or anything, but with that kind of attitude you should probably stay away from martial arts.
if all you're looking for is to just beat people up, martial arts isn't really for you.
you better just stick to lifting weights and whatever you were doing before.

              tkd or karate

I hope that those are not the only styles you have to choose from. Based on what I have read in your post I would highly recomend hapkido even though Im not a big hapkido fan It would probally be what you are looking for.

from what I have seen it looks to be well rounded I believe its a combination of aikijujutsu phillipino and korean arts But I dont know that much about it I was going to say aikido but not enough strikes there.

Honest to god, I would't bother with any of those.

You'll learn more about fighting by taking yoga than you will by taking most of those things, in my opinion. There ARE good teachers in those arts, but they are very few and very far between, in my opinion, again.

Most of those arts will make you a worse fighter than you were before day one.

                    In my experience.

And I'm not syaing Yoga will teach you ANYTHING about fighting. I'm just saying, at least it won't teach you to fight BADLY.

If you think that you want to injure people, you should look at yourself a little more closely. The desire to hurt people is purely born of fear, when a person isn't strong enough to stand their own fears - they turn to fantasies of causing harm. Trust me, it's one of my fear-reactions too, I know how it is.

Face your fears first. THEN you will be able to fight. But so long as you the chicken-shit running around saying "Ahm Gonna Mess Some People Up!" guys like me who REALLY know how to do it are going to make your life rough.

Tough guys don't act tough, buddy. You'll find that out when you meet some REALLY TOUGH GUYS.. Pro boxers, College level wrestlers of greater than average ability, BJJ black belts. These people are nearly ALWAYS sugar-sweet personalities. I watched one of the best boxers I know take NO END OF SHIT from some drunk that wandered into his OWN gym. He just kept taking it and taking it..with REAL love, from the guy. And finally, the guy left. And I thought "This guy just beat my ass without breathing hard. He just handled this guy like he was a brother. What a guy."

So drop the BS act. Start telling people you want to grow physically and face up to your fears so you can be more useful to yourself and those you love. Quit saying you want to injure people. You are just scared - we are all scared - buddy. Be scared WITH your brothers, don't be scared AT them.

                    Warmest Regards.

i didnt say i wanted to injure people, i said i wanted to have the ability to injure people. i dont even like to fight. any who, i appreciate the posts, but i found something to do. me and some guys get together at my shool wrestling room and train for a couple of hours. it is basically a mixture of jui-jitsu, wrestling, muay thai, and boxing. Also, i dont know if i have stated this yet, but since i started this post, i started taking TKD at my school, (i needed one more credit to make me a full time student). TKD sucks really bad, to anyone who reads this....never take TKD for anything other than the want to improve your flexibility. it is ridiculous. Mixed Martial Arts is much, much better.
