Yeah, you Judo people are crazy.

I did however effectively use one of the things I learned in that first Judo class against my BJJ instructor standing. He's infinetly better on the ground than standing, but still owns my face, so I was impressed by this. I think I'll end up going back to the first one, even if it is very far away.

You suck... I kinda miss throwing folks around! (and hitting the mats). Grappling is big fun too. Enjoy yourself SG!

Thanks for the reply Tanto, and for bringing this thread back up. I remember seeing it a while ago because of your comment about inserting handles where you need them, I particularly liked that .

In this kind of fighting where you might be using an inserted blade where you would typically use a grip, can a folder stand up to that stress or are fixed blades pretty necessary?

That particular comment was intended for the laughter part of the word SLAUGHTER. Call it a sickness. If for example you thrust the blade of the karambit in your right hand into the left orbit for say, Osotogari, it should be a simultaneous combination technique. No one will stay on your knife intentionally long enough to use it in place of a "grip".

I have made my prefrence for fixed blades known many times but a modern combat folder with a rock solid lock would be no less effective. IMHO But what do I know? I've never needed to kill anyone. And, I do not presently own any folding knives. I have had some friends tell me that Strider makes a number of very stout folding knifes as do some other custom knife makers. Sadly, I don't have hundreds of dollars lying around to invest in a "pocket" knife...

            Just sign the waiver....

Went to a club, (different from the other one I mentioned in the other thread Tanto).

I ask to try a class, you know, see how they do things and that, and expect it to be free, so we do some stuff, ....th(e)n get told I'm supposed to pay 15 bucks (like.. 20 minutes into the class) because im a "visitor". Shouldnt you let someone try something before they sign up for 3 months or something like that.

I thought that was bullshit, so I just left, I'm kinda exhausting my judo options at a fast rate, oh well those people were douches.

No, I expect a class or two for "free" Sometimes you pay with your sweat (or blood) but that's what the waiver of liability is for. You should at least cover your ass just in case someone actually gets hurt. (it happens) If you want to pick on the unranked players as a guest then you should expect a brown or black to pay back... at least that's how it worked where I played.

Don't really know these days??? Usually it's better manners if you go easy on your training partners until they know where you're at as far as your abilities go. If the better white belts just squirm around then you should be allowed to play with a (the) brown belt(s) Get a feel for the school and the students before you start slamming folks too hard, ya know?

I say keep trying? Maybe even pay the 15.00 dollars but make sure they give you your money's worth...

Hmmm, isnt standing where 99.99 percent of all fights START? Your FIRST judo class allowed you to own your bjj TEACHER but it doesnt count because you were standing

He would probably quit because the impacts were interfering with his bulletproof shield.

Your TMA predeccesors once questioned the effectiveness of Brazilian JiuJitsu, surely you are not as foolish as to make the same mistake.
