this video is still one of the most badass videos ive seen on this site, these guys are awesome. i watch this video again and again.

another thing i noticed was how effective holding on to your opponents collar can be while blasting him with punches, hockey style. we cant do that in boxing or muay thai, however in the street this would probobly work out really well.

i was watching this video over again, and i just realized how effective headbutts can be at putting opponents down, especially if you have good grips on their clothing. i noticed more than a few practitioners using headbutts effectively.

anyone know how to train headbutts? and anyone know if the risk of injuring your neck by headbutting others is high?

I just realized after watching this video that this type of fighting is more unrealistic than mma(with Pride rules). So what its barenuckle and you can headbutt and strike to the groin. There is still alot of the other things the helmet prevents, like the real damage that a punch or any kind of a strike can do. Those helmets protect the fighters alot more than you may realise and because of that, this type of fighting is more fake than UFC. Sure that video was awesome, but if I had the choice to be the best at Daido Juku or a champion in Pride Fc, I'd pick the pride fc. Something that would really impress me is if only mouthguards were worn with no gloves(Gi's were allowed too), but thats just too deadly.

helmets arent as safe as you think they might be. People still get KO'd. I've had helmets kicked right off my head. It still hurts like hell to get kicked or knee'd in the head. Do you want to see them spit their teeth out before you think its real enough? This is the type of sparring I have always been used to. Sparring is all about training yourself to be better, and for that you need both people to show what they got inside. Maybe someones good at standup, but not in a clinch, or on the ground, etc. You can still go all out, and keep it safe. There is a certain amount of trust expected from eachother during sparring like this, you dont go for the kill, you train to be better at everything. It teaches you how to get over another opponents "Bread and butter" techniques.
Not only that, but most importantly is this...some people shrink when hit hard, and others move forward. This gets you in the mindset that if you can move forward against opponents much, much better than you in the ring, you can hold your own against anyone.
Now its true that most karate doesnt do this type of sparring during class. But hang out after class, there are usually many people willing to teach you the right way. Ask to spar with the highest level ranks that you trust. They will work on refining their techniques, while you work on surviving.

This IS traditional Martial arts; before the world started suing everytime they got a bloody nose.

I don't know about you, but I've never seen 2 mostly naked guys wearing only biker shorts fighting on a mat on the streets.... Never mind that UFC is VERY REGULATED - the rules are incredibly strict for the fighters' safety - it's nowhere close to a streetfight (usually punches are thrown while you grab the guy's shirt/jacket, you trip/throw the guy to the ground and stomp the shit outa him...).

In real fights usually both are wearing clothes, are allowed to headbutt and strike to the groin, etc...(similar to what's shown in the Daido Juku vid) Even with the helmets guys are still getting knocked out in the video, without the helmets they might be spending time in the hospital - I think sacrificing 'realism' for a bit of safety is a good precaution. I think the realism factor is comparable to UFC or Pride, maybe even a little more realistic (maybe...).

That said, I still love watching PrideFC and UFC, as well as most other forms of prizefighting...
