The kind I harvested, passiflora mexicana, isn't poisonous at all. I hadn't heard of any of them being poisonous but would have to look into it. None of the ones out here are poisonous. I've only used P. mexicana, P. foetida and P. incarnate. The more it stinks, the stronger it is. I've heard Mexico has a species mostly used for fruit but the plant isn't as strong.
It's a really really nice sedative that is useful even for children. Good for stress, anxiety, insomnia, muscle spasms, etc. It's also really good in helping with substance withdrawal (if you're quitting pot, tobacco, alcohol, opiates, etc.)--just very soothing. It can even be used in tremors from alcohol withdrawal.
Contraindicated in pregnancy and for people on meds.
I harvested near the border and we got buzzed bigtime by helicopters, lol, four women wearing dresses with clippers. We looked so threatening.

treelizard, I'm going to # these, and you put a yes or no if you sell them at your herb shop.
All medicinal uses...I promise.
1. artemisia absinithia--no, but I do sell artemesia ludoviciana. Running low right now because of the drought, but I do have a little. Magical plant that saved my life once. If you know an acupuncturist who likes you, ask 'em about moxa. California has artemisia vulgaris--beautiful.
Since you're obviously using it for it's worm-extracting properties, might I recommend black walnut hull? I know cloves are illegal in UT, heh heh.

Well I sell all kinds of calming herbs for people who want to relax without losing brain cells. My favorite is verbena, I have a tiny bit left... I have a ton of Mexican poppy (watch out for drug tests though as I've been informed it can lead to a false positive)... Oatstraw is good too, we had to time it perfectly for when the oats get milky, then mix that with vodka, yum!
Plants you mentioned... Acacia berlandieri I don't have, but I could probably find acacia greggii or A. constricta... It's used mostly for, like, pink eye though...I've heard it's good for hangovers... It's a mild sedative and the tea is good for sore throats if you can stomach it (very astringent) and first-aid wise you can use it as a powder (to stop bleeding, though I prefer yarrow or even cayenne) and a wash as an antimicrobial.
Datura... do NOT mess with datura. I'm serious. NOT a good idea. I've babysat people on datura and it's a million times worse than any other drug I've ever encountered (including coke, heroin, PCP, etc.) DON'T use it internally.
Guarana doesn't work? Ever make zoom balls? You'll be bouncing off the walls, between the guarana and the kola nut and the bee pollen... They say to add ginseng but that's one plant I stay away from no matter what Western herbalists (including my teachers) tell me--in China you only use it when you're over 40!
Argemone...aka prickly poppy... None in stock but I usually have some. It is NOT a strong sedative if that's what you're looking for. I use it internally with other herbs when treating nerve pain. It IS good if you drink too much coffee. A nice desert plant. The seeds are a nice wild edible.
I think I've cared for justicia before as a docent at the Botanical Gardens, will have to pull out old garden maps, though.
As far as ephedra, I love Mormon tea, which is our desert variety. Very high in minerals, I usually make a vinegar. It tastes good and is decongesting, but you won't get the buzz you're looking for. Great plant though.
What else did I miss... Oh yeah, cacao nibs are awesome! When I wasn't eating sugar I would blend them with almond milk and agave nectar. They are awesome! High in magnesium, too. Recipes can be found here: http://www.naked-chocolate.com/ Yum! Raw cacao!
I hung out at this really cool cafe once when I was homeless in Flagstaff, they'd let me wash dishes in exchange for food, and one day the owner decided to make tryptophan cookies. She was vegetarian and it was around Thanksgiving and she wanted to play, too! So she bought L-tryptophan pills, crushed 'em and added the powder in the mix. It was...a lot of fun... we had to monitor how many cookies we ate to not exceed the recommended dose. I suppose tryptophan cookies, shots of strong kava kava tea (you WILL tell all your secrets, and your mouth will go numb) and zoom balls are my idea of a good time... Safe, legal and fun.

A couple years ago I invited this guy I was into over for dinner and he told me he had a present for me and handed me a baggy of weed. I said, "Thanks!" and immediately dropped it into some extra-virgin olive oil. You should have seen the look on his face!!What?! He said it was a present!! I ended up using the oil externally for someone with bad fibromyalgia. Then he asked me if he could have any alcohol, and I said no, because I needed it to tincture herbs with. He could only have alcohol that was below a certain proof, heh. Then he asked me if he could turn the heat up, and I said no, because I was cold training. Then he went home. A day in the life of an herbalist.
