"Shochu should not be confused with sake, a brewed (not distilled) rice wine."
When you are a profesional you can tell the diffrence. I've spent many a night when I was younger praying to the porcelain God.
Wikipedia is wrong. In fact, there are so many errors in that free-for-all, I'm surprised anyone takes it seriously. Politicians' aides rewrite entries to make their employers look better, and religious fundies rewrite each others' entries regarding the One True God.
The bottom line is that sake (Nihonshu) is indeed distilled.
Ok….if everybody is going to gang up on kiMpatsu, I don’t want to be left out. Dude, I’m not one to go around correcting one’s spelling, but I think you screwed the pooch on this one.
Kinpatsu means golden hair or blond hair. Kin means gold and patsu means….well, patsu…..
Now, why did the village spelling bee champ go fuk his own name with an “M” instead of using an “N”?
OK, here's a brief lesson in Japanese for you:
KiN (with an "N") is the word for "gold". The "hatsu" part means "hair" (in the ON-yomi), but when the glottal stop (i.e., the "N") is combined with other syllables, such as "-hatsu", as "kiNHatsu" is difficult for the Japanese to pronounce, an elaison is made, such that the pronounciation become KIMPatsu.
See also "ShiN" ("new") but ShiMbun ("newspaper") and "KeN" ("fist"), but KeMpo.
You might like to think of French elaison, too; for example "deux" ("two") is pronounced "duh" (i.e., the "x" is silent), but "two men" is deux hommes (pronounced "duz om").
See if you can think of any others.

Yeah I went to wikipedia because if I quote the "old guy from Kochi" telling me how he made his...nobody here would know wtf I was talking about.
I'll try to get this thread back on topic. Post your favorite sober up techniques. One of my favorites is talking a cold shower and eating dill pickels.
They say most hangovers are due to dehydration. So drink up! (Water, I mean!!)

Stop consuming alcohol. It burns out of your system in short order. Power nap. Drink water.

A big bowl of shoyu ramen. The saltier, the better, and with kakuni if possible. Works even for shochu-induced misery.
As far as romanization of Japanese is concerned, there is no standard. The Monbusho [mombusho] can kiss my hairy gaijin ass.
Water works really well to prevent hangovers... if you remember to drink it between shots (yeah, right... water and tequila...yuck. ) or drink a bunch afterward (before ya pass out! : )
Yeah, remember to hydrate after you're done poisoning yourself...
Water is great. And maybe an aspirin before you crash out.
