Karate has given the serious martial artist something of value.
The general public, who are not as serious, devoted or crazy like us, places very little value on the martial aspect of Karate. I support this claim do to the fact of the sudden rise of so called combat martial arts, since post 911.
Since 911, we have now the new marketing claims of old styles, that they teach a separate class for self-defense. We also have a wave of new martial arts that promote them selves as the no uniforms, no belts and no non-sense style for modern self-defense.
If Karate has martial value, would not the public perceive it to be so, now since the need for self-defense has never been greater?

Personally I believe the public is fat, lazy and has no motivation to invest their time, heart and soul into learning the complete benefits of what the MA have to offer.
This is the reason for why we have the McDojo’s!
Do you want that Black Belt super size?
You can have that Black Belt super size with a Master certificate for $$$$$$.
Do you want the happy meal/martial art program?
You can have your 8 year old become a second degree – a toy surprise is available upon request for $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.
Remember when as martial artist we where consider a fringe part of society because of the blood, sweat and tears it took just to get to Shodan. We where consider crazy but we had creditability.
Now, the MA are mainstream and we are no longer are that fringe element and in return we have lost our creditability.
The thing that brings the greatest displeasure to this scenario is that our own martial art brother & sisters have sold us out.
Remember in Funakoshi’s, Karate-Do Kyohan, when he states:

Who will pass it on straight and well?
