So I heard that in the Batman episode where the Green and Kato met Batman and Robin, the writers originally had Robin put the beat-down on Kato; however Bruce Lee wouldn't have it, so they had to re-script it and had them fight to a draw.

Woooah, some secret? I believe it was master Jhoon Rhee who taught Bruce Lee how to kick with effectivness to add to his leg work from wing chun. The only secret about Bruce's art is that he takes all important components of other arts to better himself, it wasn't much of a spiritual journey.
Now, about TKD stepping side kick, it is used, but since it's very linear, it should be used only when you know you have an exacting hit. Sometimes, a jump is put in there to add more power.

You are on the right track the secret is in the method of training the side-kick for atheletic efficienty. Thai-pads, and special speed and relaxation exercise mechanics isolated into it components to get maximum delivery. The attributes from different exercises, speed of acceleration, sprint, cross step in front, leaning back to get mass of body behind the kick, and the forward momentum. And the final whip of the leg into the target. Each step isolated and and then added to the whole kick to make a faster and more efficient kick. As your insight have understood bruce knew what exercises and method of getting result to produce final kick.

I think alot of Bruce' exercise' is written in 'Tao of JKD'. But do them istructors realy care 'bout that kick? I guess this one is hard to learn, but they rather let it die then master it. It really sux that these so called instructors, don' give a shit. But maybe I'm wrong? Do they teach it?

I learned it. When done right its a damn hard kick but its a little awkward to use becuase when you preform it you leave yourself pretty open and when you land it, its hard to get back into your stance

Then your doin it slow. Your opened, but if done fast, it is pretty hard kick. And get back to your stance is easy to, just put kicking leg back to tha ground!
                      Who teached ya??

yeah If you land it fine then getting back in the stance is easy. I was more thinking like if its deflected to some degree or the person side steps, or blocks or whatever. Then getting back into your on guard position would be hard to do before the other person followed up.

If you land, it then all is good because it can be a damn hard kick.

                        "Then your doin it slow."
I am, but I am still a novice

Yeh, that side kick sure leaves you open. I've done this kick when I was a begginner a lot because it was powerful, but quicker, experienced guys just step to the side and kick back to the knee. But still, my suggestion is still to leave that kick unless you hit your target precisely and, definitely, he or she cannot counter, like let's say they're weak or they're cornered.

We did it in Shukokai Karate way back in the day. I got to the stage were I could launch a punchbag almost to the ceiling.

                                But it is sooooooo telegraphed.
