I've been interested in JKD and have read one or two books but they seem to be elementary and shallow. Are there any good books or websites that offer more in depth insight into techniques and philosophy of the martial art?

Could you let me know which ones you read as that will give me an understanding of what you consider elementary and shallow, then I'll know what to recommend from there....if anything.

Whatever, man. If you keep wanting to pick a beef with me when I really have no quarrel with you, then it's just you. I chose to share my closest experience, because there are many people out there who lack the confidence just cos they're smaller, getting bullied, kicked around, constantly. Heck, my family would have no problem with me sharing our life's experiences either. We do it all the time when people are downtrodded and need help. Not necessarily on how to fight, but mostly, how to really handle gang trouble or bullies or any problem, and not give up just cos the going gets tough. I grew up fighting guys bigger than me, I know bigger guys can be taken. True, size and strength DO matter. But there are ways to handle that. You won't always win - but you won't just keel over, give up and die either.

Well, my family's the one I've seen fight the most. So I never had to look far. I picked up the most there too. Not necessarily good things to pick up in life, but it's what I had to live with.

And I still believe Bruce Lee had a chance with Ali, because of all the messy stuff I've seen and gone through - I believe it's possible! But to each his own, dude!

Ha - relax dude! This is a forum for sharing, and that's what most people are doing. When I mention meet up, since when was that a threat?? I meant everyone could share pointers! Relax man, don't have to be jumpy.

And don't have to insult my family. Grandpa went through much more than any of us, and it's true - 3am, 4am, we always had to be roused from our sleep just to step outside the house to deal with whoever's asking for trouble. That's my childhood, my teenage life, to my adult life. We never had a day's peace even after my family moved, over and over again. Look man, I'm sure tons of people went through much more than my family. What I experienced was nothing. But when I said that, it was because these were my family members, and I personally watched them fight, fight, fight, from the window when I was a kid, to getting involved when I got older - despite them not wanting me to. So, it was really my offhand experience that I'm sharing to have seen them take down guys bigger than them.
