  • Chris Kent

Recently got invited to attend a Chris Kent seminar in Ohio. Don't know if he was ever discussed here but could use some information before I spend my money. Some people I have spoken with say he is a great instructor and has solid JKD credentials. Others say he is a "Gary Dill" type of figure who tried to latch on to Dan Inosanto back in the 1970's before they had some type of falling out, and that Kent's training/ certification is a little shady. I noticed that the Inosanto Academy does not have him listed on their U.S. instructors list. Any info. would be appreciated.

Chris Kent is a legitimate full instructor under Guro Dan. He started with Guro in the early 70's and taught at the Filipino Kali Academy before branching off on his own. Don't want to comment on any possible 'falling out', I'll leave that to others.

Don't read too much into who is and who may not be an instructor by the Inosanto website as that is only a small fraction of Guro's instructors worldwide. There are PLENTY of people that are instructors that aren't listed on the website. Just my two cents, J~

I have never met Chris Kent, but I'm sure he is good at what he does... After all, he's been in the game for a while, right?

Chris is the real deal. As J said, he was a protégé of Guro Dan for many years and was part of the elite early group at the Kali Academy who became Full Instructors.

I met and trained with Chris in the USA in the mid 90’s. Not only was he at a very high level, especially his kickboxing and weaponry, but he was a really nice guy.

His focus for many years now has been on the original Jun Fan arts, he was an original member of the Nucleus (as was) and that has been his main path ever since.

I’d certainly check out the seminar.

I don't know Chris personally, but from what I gather, he has a very good technical grasp of jkd and is a highly qualified teacher.
He appears in one of Guro Dan's early books as "Chris Knudds, of England."
