JKD Misconception!!!!!

Yes,Yes I Know and please understand to all - Don't take anything I type with negativity I have much respect for those who train in the arts but FOR PETE - SAKE MAN most of the info posted is stuff right out the books which most kali and Jkd folks are plenty aware of and everyone is going to have an opinion (understandable) I think the stuff that is quality info is when people talk more-so about their results rather than mindless blabbering.... The nature of these discussion boards (all of them, not just this one) is such that only about 10% of everything posted is worth the time to read. And only about 1% is really quality material.

No matter how many of us there are out here that take our training and these discussion boards seriously, there will always be *a lot* more people out there who are just wannabes and end up being trolls (consciously or not).

But while this particular thread is somewhat frivolous, I don't know that it's a bad thing. There are always newbies who find these discussions useful and who don't (for one reason or another) stumble over the older discussions about the same topics.

I am curious as to what you are upset about. What is commerical about the Jun Fan Gung Fu Dan Inosanto is teaching?
How has he gone commerical? Because he teaches it to anybody?
I am not sure I follow what you are saying.

Also, who was your instructor in the Torrance School in the 70s?

Dan is THE MAN of men, period!!!!!

Somebody is"CLAIMING" to be his student in the '70s but somehow all this time does not know how suucessful dan has become!!!

I'm not going to lie. My Sifu is not happy with me. He is a purist and I've strayed. What he dosen't realize is through out my martial career off and on since 1973, I've always strayed. I didn't undertand why I strayed, I just did.

Back in the "70s I started in Kajukenbo. That was a rebelious art.
So I spent several years there. But eventually I moved on. I don't need to play, I fight, thats what fighters do, from the heart.

Then theres the guys that have to quote so and so's book or website so they could "BE IN!"

My Sifu didn't certify me or anybody else ever, so what. But I was smart enough to bring a camcorder. I've got a couple of years on tape of him teaching me. Thats my proof of where I've been.

I don't care what anybody online thinks of me, it dosen't matter. We aint neighbors. But I have something and some have recognized, those are the smart ones.

Beleive what you want. But I have a Thai fighter that wants to be cage fighter. He knows me, we are friends. He came to me and said "I want you to train me, I'll work around your schedule but if you can train me 5 days a week, I'll train and fight in the cage for you!" Beleive as you wish, but when people who are your peers "recognize" then something is there.

Read like a book

This is EXACTLY what I expected. You guys are really predictable. Like reading a book--turn the page.It doesn't really matter what you believe or do not. I am an old man now--I spend my last days with my wife and kids and grandchildren. I know what I have experienced and the knowledge that I gained throughout my life. And that knowlegde will stay with me and will die with me. No, I don't teach, not even my two boys, because I don't want the same thing that happened to "bad ass" me to happen to them. Prison is not a nice place. I never lost a street fight. No,I don't exploit and rape the art like all the other 'pupils". No, I won't name names of anyone I trained with(just to satisfy ignorant people in the first place). No, I won't claim to have learned JKD. What I learned was fighting--an extremely efficient form of fighting--along with Escrima,Kali and Arnis De Mano. I love Dan and will always respect him. What I meant about disheartening was that my Si Fu used to hand pick his students--however, as I started reading along his website I realized he is not teaching JKD, only the philosophy. His doors are open to anyone and that is great.
As for you people, there is a common notion throughout the centuries that describes man in general as being an ignorant animal. Refusing to believe even when presented with evidence. For example, Galileo was ridiculed for saying that the sun was the center of our galaxy and that the earth was round not flat. Even three hundred years after his death when they KNEW this to be true they denied it. IGNORANCE. Tell your local christian about the history of his religion and what you get is first denial and then anger because they cannot disprove it. The Inquisition?? You had a birthmark or a mole?--you were a witch--then tortured until you admitted it. Then burned or hanged or get this--bound and gagged and thrown into the water. If you sank you were a witch--if you floated it was because you used witchcraft to save yourself and they killed you.IGNORANCE. Only when man can transcend this ignorance do we have the thinkers, the creators, the inovators. Without them we would not have electricity, science, modern medicine, no computers, no CD players. AUTO I always get misunderstood but you have to understand 50% of the fools in here take quotes from other sites of heresay and to them its the truth as written by GOD!

My attitude is somewhat like my Sifus but not quite as extreme. If you say that don't work, this does. I say show me. My motto should be, c'mon lets train, but its more like, get in my face, I'll kick your @ss! AUTO your not that old!

We're the same age! You aren't on your last days, this is your time to shine! Or it was all a waste of time!! If we don't pass on what we have, then like you said, JKD will be raped forever! Thats partially why I am the way I am in here. Probably 50% of these guys with "OPINION" on JKD have no experience with a qualified instructor. I'm not talking paper, I'm talking learning from someone that has experienced what was really taught, not just some made sh!t with a label of JKD!

But he was the senior student. He was Jmmys student before Jimmy met Bruce. He started with Jimmy when Jimmy shared a school in Hayward with Al Novak. He was Jimmys student until Jimmy died. When you ask him about his training he says he was a student of Jimmy Lee. He is true to his Sifu!

I TOO WAS INCARCERATED FOR SEVERAL YEARS. Back in the '80's.
I was a product of the '70's, I was destined to fall down behind all the partying. Thats why in my profile I say I trained in the arts "OFF AND ON" since 1973. I have no reason to lie.

But if you are true to JKD, then don't give up on it. I choose to call my art Kempo Jujitsu because I'm certified in Kempo and I'm training under 2 traditional Jujitsu instructors so that I can continue to grow and I personally don't want "MY ART" to be considered to be the same as these guys using the JKD name without training under a qualified instructor.

THE CONCEPT AND PHILOSIPHY IS WHAT IS GETTING RAPED!!! ITS EVERYBODYS TICKET TO CLAIM THAT THE PRACTICE & TEACH JEET KUNE DO!!

YO RYU, I'm not trying to argue but I want my point to be expressed.

I've never fought a real fight with a BJJ guy. But after my first year of 3 years years in BJJ I knew I could easily take 9 out of 10 of the guys I was training with, PERIOD!

There are many wholes in BJJ. If you are able to take away from them the take take down, they've got nothing. They for the most part can't throw a punch at all except a weak looking strike with nothing behind it.

I'm not talking about someone who trains for MMA. Don't confuse the two. MMA is not BJJ! It contains elements of BJJ, but BJJ schools don't teach MMA unless you pursue it separately AND THEY ACTUALLY participte in it.

On a side note, my martial art wouldn't be as good as it is without BJJ.

Hey Auto,

I don't get what the fuss is all about. You sound angry, hurt, and upset.
Why?
All I have done is try to understand what the heck it is you are trying to say.
Perhaps your post was not directed to me, but I was the one who asked whom you trained with.
I asked that because I just wanted to establish the basics. You have to admit that when someone comes in with all these mysterious credentials, it looks suspicious.

Eitherway, I am still NOT SURE What you are trying to say. If you are trying to make a point, please do so in a concise manner so we can all understand.
As far as I know, Dan Inosanto is teaching JUN FAN GUNG FU dedicated to preserving the art of Bruce Lee, but he is also teaching the concepts and Philosophy of Bruce which was most important to him as far as I can tell.

What about this is so disheartening to you?

No two people have the same inner meaning of JKD, its a topic that will always be a heated debate.
