  • New to JKD???Have questions.

I have always wanted to study JKD and was curious if anyone on this forum knew of a good school in the Sacramento, CA area? Also here is my dilema: I would like to find some study (videos, books, ect...) so that I can learn on my own. I read a few posts down about some videos and was curious if anyone has heard of Hargrave. I came accross a website http://www.leejkd.com which has training material however I am partially skeptical about it's motives. Any advice on how to get started would be greatly appreciated. Background: I did study white tiger kung fu and tae kwon do for about 2.5 year but that was about 6 years ago.

    thank you
    Matt.

if you can't find any JKD school in your neighbourhood, then search for other schools/clubs/gyms like Wing Chun,Boxing,Kickboxing,Muay Thai, French Boxing or Jiu-Jitsu,Philipino MA's
    These would be excellent substitutes.

Has anyone here taken or heard of Kuk Sool Won. I have a colleague at work that said I should study this style with him. Any Suggestions?

      Thanx

I checked out that web site and ............WOW..............!!!!!!!!!

I am speechless. Not necessarily in a good way or bad. There sure are a lot of words on that site. I looked at words and then I saw more words. Then on the next page, ……….WORDS!!!

I do however take note and concern from the fact that someone found it necessary to use the words; For the record, on their web site. Then to follow it with allegations of death threats and legal action taken against people.

Look, I don’t claim to know what is or isn’t true on this site, but I personally would not align myself with someone of the proclivity to have a site with content of this nature.

I write this under the protection of the first amendment and my right to my own opinion. I have stated no names and specific web sites, to protect myself from silly lawsuits or silly people.

I think there may be silly people out there, and some might have web sites.

This guy may have a credible lineage of training and be worth something in the way of knowledge. There are a ton of media outlets. Check out JKD unlimited. Check out Dan Inosanto. Check out Paul Vunak. Check out a million different sources, and decide for yourself what you feel the most comfortable with.

Leo Fong is in Sacramento and he is the real deal. he's spent a lifetime creating his art which grew out of his teachings from his Sifus James Yimm Lee and Bruce Lee at the Oakland Jun Fan Gung-Fu Institue.

James Lees son Greg has a site with some not all of the original students names listed. Click the link and then on the left click the link "Students of Oakland," you can verify that Leo Fong was there as well as my Sigung Felix Macias Sr.

Theres a lot of new instructors out there. You are fortunate to live near one of the "old great ones," good luck!

I know the reasoning for the use of the "words" of "for the record."

Carter was certified by Gary Dill and on the board of directors of the JKD association up to 1993 I believe. In 1992 (a year beforehand) he started up his own JKD federation. Their was a falling out and I believe had a legal battle, conflict of interest, I'm not sure.

But I had this verified by one of my instructors Hanshi Lou Angel (who was one of Carters Instructors also) who did not give me the specifics but told me of the falling out. Lou Angel and Gary Dill are close friends and Lou Angel was Carters first Instructor back when he was 7 years old. I don't think he would lie to me.

Just wondering how you know of my Sifus site? Felix Macias Jr. is the one who trained me. I didn't know that he had that site up. Heres a link to his original site:

Latest news coverage, email, free stock quotes, live scores and video are just the beginning. Discover more every day at Yahoo!

Its nearly the same. Anyway let me know.

Then we might possibly know each other. I have been training with Felix Jr. for about a year and a half now. I am helping him with his new website and we are trying to get the old one redirected. Are you still under his intruction?
