The best example of a McDojo is the ATA and their widespread belt factories. If the dictionary ever puts the word "McDojo" in it, it's going go have an ATA logo next to it.
And yes, you don't "EARN" a Black Belt in 2-3 years (regardless of how often you train or how hard); you "buy" it. It's the truth.

"Is ATA more simaller to ITF or WTF?"
Good question, I think it used to be more similar to ITF but due to WTF's popularity they jumped on that bandwagon. My friend used to teach for an ATA school years ago and they were just starting to implement WTF style sparring.
Green Ranger, dude, your amazing skill? Your ability to learn fast? They tell you your special too and hold your hand shyly? WAKE UP! Those are lines man! IT'S JUST PILLOW TALK BABY!!! hahahahaha Man, these are the same lines men use to get what they want from women, they just want your money! The more they pump you up and falsely boost your confidence the sooner they can convince you to test and pay them more money.
Don't you think I'm extremely talented too? Or that some of my students are just born naturals? We still need to put in our time just like everyone else regardless of how good we are. Black belts come with maturity, not ability to jump high or kick high or remember a pattern fast heh.
So remember these words: Pillow talk! Don't fall for it, they probably won't call you in the morning.

They didn't use those words. I did. They gave me greater rewards and responsiblities for my actions. They never explicitlly told me that. I gathered it from how they rewarded me.
I didn't say had I great skill in kicking. I do think of myself as mature though.

Curtesy and respect for juniors and seniors is what I expect. Threats and curses is something else. Even at a school looked upon lowly by you enforces that. Your behavior upsets me more than your lack of respect for my school. I don't know what the criteria is for you, but I know that when I think of ATA and its values, I think of positive attiude, being a role model for others, being kind to everyone, and showing respct. Your comments, though not terribly cruel or hateful, are just not what I expected out of a martial artist. No one who showed that kind of atitude would be tolerated at my school.

I Took an Oath!
Mr. Green Ranger,
"I Shall Be A Champion Of Freedom and Justice!"
People depend their very lives on the skills they are taught in the dojang. I personally believe it to be a public injustice to instill false confidence in an individual that is looking for life presorvation skills. I consider it to be an even greater injustice to receive reimbursement for the (injustice) afforded to you...does the concept of paying someone to lie to you make any since...NO...didn't think so.
Also, you stated that the knew dojang is not any good, but you were going to stay and receive your BB...(?) ...you are knowingly accepting inferior instruction. (inferior promotion!)

Green,
The martial arts world is not exactly the same as the ATA. In fact the ATA is not exactly the same as they say either.
I have been in the ATA since 1984, to date, I'll let you in on what has happened to me.
I started Training under Master Juhl in Iowa, (great guy)
Then ended up training with Mr. Lachney in Iowa, (left the ATA to join M.A.R.S.)
Then Trained under an instructor in missouri, I was about 15 then and my instructors wife started coming on to me. I requested a change of senior instructors and Master M.K. told me no and that I should go back to the school and asked to be allowed to train there again. She was later prosecuted for molesting a 13 year old boy and giving him drugs and alcohol.
I ran a school for 10 years and two years ago I was moving so I turned it over to a student of mine to run for me. I offered to sell her the school for basically half the price of the equipment in it. She waited until the absolute last day and said no she didn't want it. And instead told me if she just waited I'd go out of business since there was no one else to teach. (she was wrong) Instead she started teaching the stuff somewhere else and took all the students that I had worked hard at trying to get to accept her. Many just quit because she told them that the school was going out of business and that they should just train with her.
I was living on the east coast at the time so it was hard to keep the school alive but my other junior banded together to do it.
She started teaching without a school license, they changed her senior instructor and even told my students that they were the only ATA school, not mine her instructor is Mr. Prosser. The ATA didn't care. They said they would shut her down because she was teaching a half a mine away from where my school was. nothing happened.
2 years later still nothing, I was promised that it would be taken care of but nothing.
Finally It sounded like something was going to happen and guess what, Master Deliegy (sp) called me and threated to shut my school down because he said I was not having enough testing.
The ATA is without leadership at the top. It is all about money after 10 years of teaching it is only getting worse. Chest protectors are about selling chest protectors not about safty. How many chest injuries have you seen at tournaments.
It used to be different. From my time in the WTF I can say the songahm system is better, but as for all the tenets they say we believe in. I can say I have not seen it coming from the top.
Some at the top I greatly respect, while others I have seen nothing but dishonorable behavior and pettyness.
It used to be that the Quality in the ATA was higher than WTF and ITF, but now it is close to the same in schools with older instructors. New schools run by children are a totally different story.
When I moved back to Missouri,

EF,
Well, I'm sorry to hear that you weren't treated better EF. Sounds like you got a bad deal.
I guess I was a little naive.
Hopefully the ATA isn't completely lost though. Maybe a new wave of leadership will bring it back to what we envision as a true martial school.
Until then though, we who believe in the values I mentioned, will just have to enforce them as much as we can. Even if it doesn't make a difference on a nationwide level, that's all we can do. Or is it...

I said I knew my dojang wasn't any good? I didn't think I did. If so I didn't mean it. It's good.

I was the one that said the new dojang sucks. I have since changed my mind about training there but that is not the point. Just because the instructor sucked doesn't mean that I couldn't learn there. Material is material. A form is a form. The guy had very good forms. A kick is a kick and a punch is a punch. Now knowing how to use these things is two different stories. I have checked out alot of martial arts schools and I have been disappointed across the board. There isn't much in the Chicago area. I have been to WTF and they were all about sport. This was three different schools. I tried two itf schools one they were just physco and the other was charging way too much for what they offered and both were terribly organized. I called a hapkido school and the guy cussed me out for asking his monthly rates and said that you never ask an instructor his rates. I am going tomorrow to check about a school on base here that is totally free to military and there dependants. He teaches hapkido. He has his 2nd degree black belt in hapkido, 1st degree in tkd, and 1st degree in american freestyle karate(which I have no clue what it is). I am hoping he is a decent instructor but you cant beat free lessons so if I even get a little bit out of it I will continue to train there.
Back to the original point. TKD is just what it stands for the way of the hand and foot. Any decent instructor can teach you the proper way to execute those techniques but only a good instructor will show you when and teach you the concepts along with the moves. For example you dont spear hand someone in the arm it would be pointless.
