Will ITF and WTF ever combine.... I don't think it would ever happen... side note In Alberta, Canada there is now the ICTF (international Ch'ang-Hon TaeKwon-Do Federation) because we were tried of the ITF's politics... haha... so we made our own.

the politics behind the ITF, the way clubs interact with one another, having to deal with guidelines and rules that we consided to restraining to the true art of TKD and the way Gerneral Choi intended it to be. my organization of taekwon-do is the ICTF- internation Chang-Hon Taekwon-do Federation... however it is not to say that we do not participate in the ITF tournemnts etc, it is just that we want to be free to run schools without a set guideline that restrain's The Art

yes my school follows gerneral chois rules, as for my school interacting with the son of gerneral choi i am not the head instructor so i ahve no idea if he does or not.

as for sign wave we do it in ever movement going into a punch, block, kick, etc. So ever movement in ever pattern

                  Hey man,
I'm from calgary to, what school do you go to?? I studied under Pat Teevens at Techumseh TKD and later on under J.J. Lee

and in answering that question posed here. No they never will. THe Physical theories are much to different to ever find a happy medium, not only that the techniques are super wierd in WTF for instance a Side kick in WTF is completely differnt in ITF. I tried to join up in WTF one time but it was to ridiculus for me to even take more then a weeks classes. ITF is for fighters, developed stright from General Chois Military adaptaion, WTF is for demonstrations and Olympic sparring. One piont I would liek to bring up is the blasphemis use of the words "self defence", pre arranged is not self defense. Self defense is a system of techniques adn theories that will help you not die when being vicously attaked by a assailent of multiple attackers, most likly with weapons. My god they dont even use their hands when they sparr at the olympics, in ITF u drop your hands for a second, your either punched and kicked 30 times, or your taken to the ground and incapacitated. I realize that Some weakling ITF school exists where the major emphasis is on Patterns and what not ,but that is not how my training goes.

my 4 degress of seperation with General Choi:
general Choi trained J.J. Lee in the Korean Army, J.J.Lee trained Pat Teevens, Pat Teevens trained Me

                    Itotally Believe You

                    I TOTALLY BELIEVE YOU!!

it sounds like to me that you would perfer a ITF school rather than a WTF school.

i also agree with what u said about some ITF SCHOOLS just do patterns.
i guess its why we call it a martial art.

I thing i totaly believe is what u said about wtf fighters when they spar

1 thing that pisses me off is when i hear people say that wtf are more superior than itf

This whole ITF/WTF debate is just tired now. As organisations, both are equally corrupt, one has it's founding member banged up for 2 & a half years for embezlement and the other has split into, what is it now, 4 different organisations, each of them claiming to be the authentic ITF!

The association I'm a member of is independant & tries to stay away from all that BS. We have good links with the ITF due to my master's background, & the WTF due to our school being Jidokwan. We still do the Chang Hon forms & spar ITF style, but also have adopted many of the drills the WTF use.

To be honest, both groups have good & bad in them. To a lot of people Olympic style sparring is a joke but believe me, I've met some of the fastest & most powerful kickers who train that style. It's a pity that so many schools focus purely on sparring and not the art itself. Likewise, I've met ITF fighters who are awesome kickers, but rely on the one steps & three steps for their SD. If both organisations wern't so rigid & allowed their instructors to adapt the techniques & fill in the gaps, I would have more time for them.

Incidently, my master showed me his copy of Gen Choi's TKD encyclopedia dating back to the early 70's, & the SD section showed purely Hapkido style joint manipulation techniques, but the revised edition from the 80's has completely ommited them. It's almost as if the ITF are afraid of their students developing beyond their control!

Personally, I practice TKD, not WTF TKD or ITF TKD, just TKD, a style that honours the tried and tested, yet is willing to adapt to it's surroundings and incorporate new developments. Am I alone out there?
