  • Cant you get addicted to pain killers and cant they harm you?

That sounds cool, a DVD follows a guy around in all his NHB matches and its like a documentary or something. Thats something I would like.

Anyway about the TKD forms. I was lucky enough to have an instructor perfect my techniques and be strict with me and watch every move to make sure I was doing it perfectly. Now when I come to a new school in another state and the grandmaster is very old and sick so he doesnt teach and the other instructors teach for him but they are lenient and dont pay attention to anything and pass anyone who has money. So when I learn a new form by someone who sucks, I dont really pay attention to his movements, just what he tells me the moves are and then I do them correctly. I always won forms competitions except 2. The first one I was just started training again and the 2nd one was biased judges who wanted their student to win. This also happened to me a lot in sparring.

Anyway im sick of tournaments, now I just train alone and practice my own stuff. Mianly I just am conditioning now and running on the treadmill and strai eliptical thing and lifting weights. I just started so im a begginer at it. I have this routine i do where I go down every machine rapidly fast with no breaks in between and come back and do it again. Then I work abs and then do a walk on the dreadmill and cruise. Then I strech and cool off and go home. I havnt done much fight training lately since my surguries.

yeah pain killers are bad, this guy almost dies and has to go to rehab. the movie also shows him training with bas rutten, and a renzo gracie documentary in special features

i know you didnt ask for advice on training, but i would suggest adding in jump rope. not only is it great cardio, but it helps develop your calf muscles.

im sorry, i just had to make a suggestion, i am just tired of hearing people complain about their little calves after they do 3 sets of 10 on a seated calf machine and then go home. so as soon as anyone starts talking about training, i have to say it.

haha! Thanks for the advice I will look into it. Im serious about conditioning as well. But I have to have people push me or be around people because I have no motivation when I am alone. Plus the trainers at the gym help me out. They have a nice machine that helps calves. In my TKD training when sparring and always jumping and bouncing when sparring I get good calves. I have decent mucles. I think I can do a set of 12 with like 150 lbs...I dont know if thats anything special but like I said im a begginer weight trainer.

The eliptical machine is kind of like a treadmill but it moves in eliptical ways like circular and it really works my legs and calvs and quads big time.

I read in one of your other posts that you said to get rid of fat cardio is better then weights on your ab excersizes. So basically jump rope, run etc...

        • yeah, cardio is the best thing for fat loss, you cannot do crunches all day and get a six pack, it will make them bigger and easier to see, but cardio and diet are what will really get that layer of fat off

          • Actually you can take off fat by weight lifting. You just have to do it correctly.

If you are going to use cardio for fat loss look into HIIT.

An excellent program for fat loss is called AFTERBURN. it is an ebook that has been recommended by very good trainers and is well worth the money.

              • yeah no kidding, people always look for some fancy way to lose weight. get your fat ass up to your local school and run some stairs. all of the miracle ab chairs and atkins diets make me want to puke.

i have a fealing andrew isnt lifting weights to lose weight anyways.

                • Weight lifting does burn calories but not very many. Increasing muscle mass increases metabolism which helps burn calories but these are long term benifits. If you want it off and you want it off now.Its all about super high intensity anaerobic exercise(eg...RUN !)

actually, running is good for weight loss, but even better for cardio conditioning. spending a long time at slow jog or fast walk is better for fat loss ( all though i still prefer jump rope and what not ).

fat loss - low intensity, long period of time
endurance - super high intensity aerobic exercise

                    • Yes but high intensity also speeds up your metabolism. I do something that I call the rectangle. I don't know if I came up with it or if other people know it by another name anyway I find a rectangular area Back yard or basket ball court and I walk down one of the long sides when I get to the short side I pick the pace up to A jog and when I get to the other long side I run full speed then I get to the other short side I slow back down to a jog and over again about 10 or 20 of these will have just about anyone winded. It works well an covers both low and high intensity.

                      • You have no clue what you are talking about.

Run slow be slow. if you want to look like a strung out heroin addict run long slow distance.

If you want to look like a sprinter it's HIIT Baby.

Jump rope is great, it is usually done in rounds of 5 minutes or so and alternates between low and high intensity (HIIT)

                        Endurance is long slow distance.

Since I own a gym, i get to see all the people come in thinking they can loose weight on the treadmill or the elliptical or stepper. And guess what they don't lose much.

Also an increase in muscle mass means you burn more calories at rest. So add that to a small calorie deficit from previous weight lifting levels and you will lose fat.

It's not rocket science. It just quicker than trying to run it off. Long slow distance often leads to a decline in muscle mass due to energy requirement during the run. Your body then turns to your muscles to supply the required energy.

Science has improved our knowledge of working out and training. Don't go back to the 70's info and decrease the efficiency of your work out.

We appear to be arguing but we are all saying pretty much the same thing.......except for this HIIT what could possibally be there that has not already been covered in a million and one other "workout programs'?

                          • Try this is you want to improve your fat lose, and speed.

                            five 5 minute rounds
30 second sprint 10 second walk (can be done with jump rope)

In between lift at 80% of your 1 rep max. strength keep your reps at 3 to 5. For bodybuilding 8-12, and endurance 15-25.

You should keep your pulse elevated the entire time of the work out.

also make sure to rotate your workout. After about 8 weeks your body will adapt to whatever you are doing and you will either stop progressing or burn out.

                            • Afterburn is a step by step program. It's very informative and useful. By Cosgrove.

Another decent program from the results i've seen is the body for life program.
