  • Taekwondo: to old to achive something?

Well, i started traning taekwondo 2 weeks ago, im traning 4 times a week... Now i have trained judo for 8 years have some medals from the competiton and stuff like that, i quited becouse of some personal reasons and didnt do nothing for 2-3 years, practicly... Now im 18 years old, now does someone know if i can still achive something until my age of 25-30 ? I know for example that soccer player is in his 34 at his max power, now what about the fighters (martial art fighter) until when can he be on his maximum shape (at his maximum power)...

In my country (slovenia) there are only 2milion ppl, its a small country and there isnt that much competition in any kind of sport, i think i could achive at least country championship (well thats my goal) but what about further is there still time for european battles?

Sory for the bad english, it isnt perfect, i hope ill get some good replys ty

The question should be "Do I have the drive and desire?"

One of my personal favorite soccer players did not even play soccer until he was 17 and yet made it to the national team...

WHAT DO YOU WANT TO ACHIEVE? Answer this question and you can set your goals accordingly. Since you are in Europe, you have the opportunity to travel to other areas with more competition and greater density.

You want to make it to the Olympics?
We all do. I dreamed of dancing Swan Lake, on winning gold and Oscars and Grammies. Fact is, I am not outstanding, so I settle for personal best. I am good at that and sometimes surprise myself.

But then again, I am not 18 anymore, I am 38, and wish I had known then (and done) what I do know.

Well i have puted that goal that is achivable, to become state champion, i have the desire and the drive, im traning 4 times a week already and i will keep it like that.

Its just funny when i see ppl when we practice they dont even try to lift their leg up, its like they dont want to be on traning like they were forced, when i come i enjoy and completly devote myself to it.

Until i dont achive state championship i wont think about euro tournament, that comes later

        Well put, Granfire.

I started MA at 42 and I appraoch it with the enthusiasm, desire and intensity of a kid. I'm totally eaten up and gonzo when I train in MT and can't wait to go back for more. But that's just me, I've always been very physical and intense in everything I do and have not slowed down a bit

Worried about being too old at 18????? Uggh!

DogZ, just be patient and don't give up. At your age, if you decide you want to be great at TKD by the time your the ripe old age of . . . 34 . . . <eyes rolling, shuddering> you will be if you decide you will be. And if you don't make the olympics or become a champion, you will acheive your personal best and there is nothing wrong with that. Decide->execute->stick to it . . . . .and stop this talk of being too old, it pisses off guys that are my age. ;-)

I got my Black Belt at age 47, now I am 50 and I am still training for my 2nd degree in JJJ. You can do it, it's all in your mind.

The top K1 fighters are all in their mid to late 30's and a lot of MMA fighters continue into their 40's if you want an age comparison for competition.

                  MA's are for life.

                    Chuck Liddell is 37.
                    Bas Rutten is 41.
                    Ramon Dekkers is 37.
                    Randy Couture is 43?

At 48, George Foreman came back into professional boxing to win the world heavyweight championship.

Evander Holyfield fought into his 40's.

Founder of the US. Green Berets, Col. Aaron Bank enlisted in the army at age 37. In his 40's, he qualified for the U.S. special operations. You were asking about maximum power, so technically this does not answer your question as I've been told the qualifications require maximum endurance, stamina and will power.

Do a google search on fitness advocate Jack Lalanne.

At age 66, he tugged 10 boats in the water for a distance of 1 mile. Check out some of the other stunts he's done. At age 90, he excercises for 2 hours per day, with an intensity that some 18 year olds cannot keep up with...

Gran I really hope your favourite player isnt Ian Wright...

And I seriously doubt 34 is the prime age for a footy player, i would say more like 30 or less. It also depends on the position, Keepers ripe late whilst wingers die out early.

LOL! NO, my favorite player retired, like 20 years ago! I don't care too much for soccer, but I got a hometown team I pull for! (I think it was the 1990 Cup team he was on...)

The prime is about 30. Only the top technicians stay longer....

But thankfully in MA experience can carry you past age limitations!
