Breathless, I'm not going to argue with you. I'd have to agree that you if try all out grappling with 2 determined people it's not going to work out so well.
Once in my old BJJ class they tried grappling with 2 people or more. Only one guy was able to do it and he ended up tapping 2 guys that were trying to tap him. And he was a monster.
thanks for you reply poopy! i just want to qualify that i don not think bjj is wothless it is effective on the ground (and in my opinon against a single assailant) it equals judo and college wrestling. but all of us intersted in self defense should be interested and studying all ranges of personal combat and weapons training. as we all know a stick can be trained with, it can then be substitued for a newspaper, umbrella, a golf club,or whatever. knives annd guns are a grey area but you should train with them. as for disarming techniques well the gracies are a little off the path on that one (although the defense aginst a rear knife to the throat is pretty good (my training partners and i tried it.) any tactics with complicated movements WILL be forgotten under the stress of combat.
i do like the gracies becuase they have brought grappling to the for front and made a lot of kick /punchers realize that combat is not linear. as far as that book though a tad overpriced. and the gracies seem to have a peg a slot b approach to self defense.
