when you choke people with the intention of choking them out (like a roid eating speed freak trying to kill the whole word), how long do you hold the rear naked choke? 1-10 secs? how dangerous is it? when do it become dangerous?

All submission holds whether it be chokes, arm / leg locks, etc. are meant not to just make someone "tap out" - their original intent is to hurt, break, maim, or even kill someone. well, that was kind of the point..

and well, i know very well to how to apply a choke to get someone tapping, but we don't practice choking into oblivion in bjj, so I'm not used to the time needed.. so..
and in krav maga i haeven't encountered many chokes yet..
so, i just wanted to know how long the brain could go without oxygen, but i found it somewhere else..

If you're gonna lay on a choke you better be in a serious self defense situation.
Choking has the potential for lethal force. If you choke, you better be willing to kill the guy because that just might be your result.
We don't teach chokes in self-defense. We don't encourage the techniques for this, and several other reasons.
How long till the bad guy passes out? It depends. It depends on a lot of different factors, very few of which you control.
But if your talking about chickens, Mr. Poopy is our resident expert.

This reminds me of a news story I read about a year or so ago. A man was attacked with an axe, taking a blow to the head. It wasn't enough to knock him out. He ended up getting the axe out of the guys hands and then choked him to death. He was a Judoka with 15 years of experience.

You don't teach chokes? I think they are essential element of self defense.Originally posted by Szczepankiewicz

This is a good example of chokes and self defense. First lets look at the legal aspect; He was justified in killing the attacker. Now, was he intending to kill the attacker or just subdue him? We don't know. What we do know is that when police are questioned about a shooting they were in quite often they only report shooting off 2 or 3 rounds, when in fact they unloaded the clip. Things change when you in the heat of battle, you just react. A 15yr judoka has been training to choke people for a long time and it paid off for him here.Originally posted by MrPoopyHe ended up getting the axe out of the guys hands and then choked him to death. Another angle, we tend to fall into a patern of thinking that we'll be ready for that head on attack and we'll have all our wits about us. This guy was hit in the head with an axe. A hard hit to the head can cause temporary blindness, all the effects of concusion, plus blood in your eye's causing blindness as well. In this state your only option may be to grab ahold of the attacker and grapple with them. Thus, a choke might be tool you need to put in your box.
I'm curious to why not. You might be able to drop a few safety tips for training. We don't teach chokes in self-defense. We don't encourage the techniques for this, and several other reasons.

Lemme Axe you a question...
Originally posted by MrPoopyI don't know what his intent was when he was choking the guy, but I think if I took an axe to the head and survived, my intent would be to kill him.
LMAO! Yeah, see, if i were conscious enough to choke a guy to death after a blow from an axe-I'd beat the hell out of him with the axe! Hell, just whallop away yelling "you like that? You like that?" in a random haphazard-surely-maniacal fashion. however, the reports would be far more amusing to say the least...
