I wouldn't pass over BJJ training because of your height or stature. I'm only 5'8 and about 185 with a good build. So I'm pretty much the short stocky guy. I am okay at suplexes, but I feel my judo and BJJ work well for me too. I would never just blow them off because of my body type. Though my style of grappling is largely based on being on top, and osaekomiwaza. My legs aren't the longest things in the world, and are better at driving then working a great guard. So the statement does hold some truth.
But don't just "give up" BJJ. There's mounds of knowledge to be gained from it.

                  Ummmm, yaaahhhhh,

                  about the short thing...

Have you ever stood beside Helio or Rickson before. They are not exactly the type of people you would ask to reach for soup on the top shelf of a grocery store....

I have no problem with techniques in BJJ. I just use what works for me, just as a 6'6 guy would pick and choose as well...

You are right though.. takedowns are much easier to apply for me, and wrestling is a definite advantage in that aspect.

Wow! I go away for 2 days and my thread is a monster! Almost... Anyway, I have done karate and aikido before, never any grappling, but me and my aikido teacher, who has "watched" grappling also fooled around with it a couple of times and that too was very amusing. We were so untechnical that none of us could submit the other, we pulled and twisted every limb we could get hold of, but nothing happened. I surprised him with a Sak/Royler armlock from inside his mount and made him tap once but other than that it was all draws and friendly decicions. But I've managed to armlock non-MAs several times without any problem, this guy is just too huge. Gotta go, see ya!

                        LOL@NHB Spice!

That's a funny story - the reason I laughed, is because it
reminds me of myself and some of my friends when we used to
get together and play cards & drink. It would always end up
as a tussle on the livingroom floor. Friggin RUG BURNS all
over my face, elbows, knees and head!

Thats rug burns from GRAPPLING on a rug people - and NOTHING else. Don't want anyone getting the wrong idea.

                        Ronnie.

No one would have said anything until you mentioned it. I wasn't even thinking that. Now that you put the idea into their heads....may God have mercy on your soul

                            David A, explain yourself...

Chad, the armlock I meant is the Kimura, where you pull his hand up his back, towards his shoulder and thereby hurting the shoulder. He tapped because I surprised him and really SNAPPED it in. Not very friendly but it worked...

And the one who has mistaken me for a woman... I was a little offended actually. A little... How did you get that idea?
