have just started B J J,I am 168lbs and it seems very hard and tiring when i am on the bottom and whatever i seem to do I cant seem to get the other guy over, is there any sort of solo practice that I could do while away from class which could help my progress ?

It's going to be very difficult for awhile, just resign yourself to that. As for things to practice, umpas and hip escapes. Focus on moving your hips, when in doubt move your hips and make something happen. Try and stay relaxed, tense muscles burn alot more oxygen than relaxed ones. Also, do alot of cardio work, being in good shape always helps.

Do you have your legs around him? Either way it sounds like you're freaking out too much because your back is to the ground. Relax and wait for the opening.
