Today is 15 may 2005. I said I went to an open Comp a couple of years ago. In english "a couple" usually refers to 2. So I said I went to an open comp 2 years ago.

That is exactly my point, the NZ competition I am talking started in Sunday 09 may 2004!
I am not aware of any open BJJ competition hosted Master Douglas in Auckland during 2003?

The rest of the posts in this thread are not making sense to you, I do not expect to understand them as you do not live in NZ.

No, I got my dates right. I also confirmed them for you. You are always making snide remarks about the Machado schools in NZ. You are also making snide remarks about the lack of support for "your" open BJJ comps.

The example I gave you covered both your concerns. We supported an "open" comp in your city. Your school did not.

We are both talking two different event:
2003: my team did not take part.
2004: my team organised.
and no there is no intend in disrepecting the Machado NZ team.
I have supported your efforts in many previous threads in the pasts when Americans did not agree with me about the ethics of running BJJ clubs without a BB.
I always have took the time to explain that there were not many BB in NZ.
Maybe if you read some previous posts, you will understand where I stand.

I can answer that. John is one of the best in the world, (he's also a 3rd degree) and he provides us with skills that we cannot get anywhere else in NZ! Also as an english speaking native of this region we know he is going to stay around for the longhaul, and not dissapear when
a) it gets cold
b) his visa runs out
c) he runs out of money
d) he can't get/keep a job
e) he misses his homeland

We have that same problem in New Zealand.
Lots of good hard training guys that are genuine about opening a BJJ Club because there is none available with qualified instructors (outside Auckland where I train).

The last I remember they were like blue belts running thoses clubs and now they are getting promoted to purple belt level. I know they compete overseas and train in Australia on a regular basis.

However, I really do not know how long they have been training.
Their chief instructor is from overseas (Australia).

There might be some politics involved in such promotions but I still admire them for running their BJJ Dojo even if they were Blue Belt or who knows maybe white? (and they most probalby get lot of critics for that) because there were no other alternative clubs in the city they live in.

Afterall, once you form a team you will get more financial power to host good seminars with international instructors. They did host a seminar with Royler Gracie this year. So yes, definitely a thumb up for such admirable effort!

But receiving BB for running a club by political reason is still a big no..no..
Some Karate association have done that and that did not work out..

They do not compete at our BJJ OPEN competition (hosted by the only Brazilian-born/trained BB) so I can not tell about their team level unfortunitly. But we are KEEN to compete if you get an invitayion but that would be another topic really?.

Most probably, we will win.

We won the team trophy on our competition: the fact they did participate in the first national OPEN BJJ tournament is their own political problem.

It might lead to Mc Dojo for them, who knows?

And so far i have not seen them coming around our Dojo for classes. I am sure it will more benefiting for them to come for afiliation and classes than having a overseas master. So there you go, it smells like Mc Dojos!

I didn’t, I jumped a flight to Australia and trained with one! Then he came to NZ to train me. My loyalty is to him and of all the people I have EVER trained with he is by far the best. Also this was in 1995! So after 8 years I should just jump ship because there is a BB in Auckland?! I don’t think so.

I don’t know what a search Buttom is, but I said earlier in this thread that I had read your other posts! That’s why I had to answer your assumptions!

And you did not support us at all with your posts in that thread either!! I also never said I didn’t care; I just had to answer you uneducated posts about John Will.

Congratulations on the turn out for the comp, that’s a great response for a BJJ only comp in NZ. Good work. Maybe next time you could give us more than 2 weeks to prepare and arrange travel?!?! And really that’s what this has been all about. You taking shots at us for not supporting your open comp! And me telling you that we didn’t even know it was on until the last minute.

We are easy to find! Go online and search google.com for BJJNZ (the whole first page is us!!) or Brazilian Jiu Jitsu NZ or Machado NZ or Grappling NZ or BJJ Wellington or BJJ Auckland or BJJ Christchurch or BJJ Palmerston North. Do I need to go on?

So please stop your uneducated posts and concentrate on your training. The world does not need to see BJJ in NZ going the same way it has everywhere else. Leave your politics in your own club. Thanks have a nice day.
