Could you please explain? You are saying that being a bjj competitor makes you the least qualified to comment on it but you don't say why. You also say the rules will kill it as an effective fighting art but do not explain why. Stop posting if you are not going to explain your point.

Wow that was a really pathetic way of trying to start a flame war and distract everyone from the fact that you still not have provided a single reason on why the BJJ points system is faulty and that a person that actually enters BJJ should be the least qualified to comment on things like this. We are waiting.

I assume that Bri is referring to bias, but hey that's all of us to an extent. A person can be passionate/prideful about thier style and be realistic, it is not a conflict of interest.

BJJ is about position and control. Better positions lead to better control which leads to submissions. It dosen't matter how you finish. Being control is having edge.

I'd rather be in a fight in good position and beiing in control than with no control which leads to a bad position.

That is the post of the self-proclaimed MA prophet. What a waste!

I totally agree about the BJJ position and control.
That why BJJ strategy is effective in real fight and MMA events, even if you do not plan go groundfighting or even better when someone tries to take you down.
You can win a BJJ fight with just sweeps (2 points). As much as you win a street fight by sweeping your opponent into wall, on concrete pavement, into stairs, into running traffic...
If your opponent cannot take you down and you do have any respect for his stand-up techniques...then keep fighting stand-up.
Just score the first sweep (2 points), then just wait for him to try to sweep you or take you down.
If his attempts are too weak, take advantage of it and sweep..keep standin-up.
That will teach him to work on his stand-up skills next time.

That and BJJ competition enforces that throws and takedowns are more realistic. In judo it does not matter were throw him, how much control you have over him, and were you or your opponent lands because you will be stood up quickly after going to the ground. But in BJJ you won't be stood up so you are forced to not only through the person but to land in a dominant position while keeping control over your opponent.

Keeping control is important..after a throw and takedown..you do not get awarded points for it if you do not have control of your opponent

In any case, I mentioned two examples of why the bjj points system is off the mark. Wallid vs Shoji and Frank vs. Horn. The person dominating on points lost. I train bjj, I'm just being realisitic.
In a sport match if you pass the guard, get the mount, get the back, and win by lots of points good for you. In MMA if you get all those positions and then the ref has to stop the fight because you're getting slugged in the face then you're a dumbass and your bjj proved to be useless.

Shamrock caught Horn in a submission. Wouldn't that have ended the match? The BJJ rules would show that Ismail does not know how to take advantage of a good position. Besides that those were a bit rare exceptions. In most mma matches when people gain a dominant position it is over.

In a real fight, a BJJ dude will pass the guard, get the mount, get the back and start striking (if needed) because his BJJ skills got him to such position?
and I know it does not any punching skills to hammer a guy in the back. The hardest problem is to get your opponent in such position when he cannot strike back : BJJ.
You do not train BJJ unless you agree to what i said?

                              Its simple enough.

BJJ relies on submission to win a real fight. When the rules favour those who merely obtain and then change controlling position..... the art is diluted.

Bri Thai, there is no perfect way to train for real self-defense, I'm sure you're aware of this.

What is your suggestion for BJJ? That every tournament become NHB with weapons such as knifes and guns allowed? Occasionally would multiple attackers be alllowed to team up on one person? That's the only REAL way to train for self-defense.

Bri, would you not at least agree that dominant position is crucial in a fight? From the mount, sidemount, and the back, it's most easy to strike someone, bite them, choke them, gouge the eyes, etc. Yes, the point system has many faults, but at its core it promotes establishing dominant positions.
